The Last Kingdom season 4 drops on Netflix on April 26. Not given the first three seasons a chance yet? Here’s why it’s your perfect binge-watch.

The Last Kingdom is one of those shows I’ve watched from the very beginning. This was when I lived in the UK, and the BBC released episodes weekly. Of course, watching weekly and so long ago, there are storylines that I’ve forgotten so to prepare for The Last Kingdom season 4 (and now I live in Canada), I’ve binge-watched the previous three seasons.

If you haven’t watched the series yet, this has to be your next binge-watch. If you tried it out when it first premiered but fell away because of the weekly releases, make sure you spend the weekend binge-watching now. You’ve still got time. I binge-watched in a week without even planning to!

Why is it your next binge-watch? Here are my five reasons you need to watch the series immediately.

1. It’s a great adaptation of the books

I love Bernard Cornwell’s writing. The Last Kingdom book series has been known by a number of names, including The Saxon Chronicles, but all books are enjoyable to read. In fact, they’re the types of books that take me just days to read through because the storylines are so engaging.

It’s easy to worry about adaptations, especially when you find out one season is two books. That means a lot of storylines missed out, right? Well, I will admit that some storylines have been cut or adapted to fit the shorter timeframe in the series. However, the way they’ve been cut has been done well.

As a show watcher, I don’t feel like I’m missing anything from the story. When you read the books, you just get more details about who the characters are, where they come from, and why they have to be loyal to specific people. Overall, the story in the series is a great adaptation of the books.
