Despicable Me is coming to Netflix tonight
By Callum Gunn
What started a phenomenon of mini yellow minions, Despicable Me is coming to Netflix tonight for everyone, both big and small, to enjoy.
It might come as a surprise for you to hear, but Despicable Me is officially 10 years old! What started off as a movie that completely blindsided us all has, over the years, grown into a modern-day Toy Story. With sequel movies, spin-offs and more, Gru and his minions captured the attention of the world and are now capturing Netflix.
Dropping on the streaming service tonight, you can go back to where it all began and relive the magic of Banana! and It’s so fluffy! Despicable Me will be available to stream from 3:01 a.m. ET on Thursday, April 16. That is 12:01 a.m. PT.
Voicing Steve Carrol as Gru, the animated movie sees supervillain Gru attempt to pull off the biggest heist the world has ever seen. The moon is his target, but in order to succeed, he adopts three orphans in order to enlist their cookie-selling skills.
What starts off as a plan to steal the moon takes Gru on a journey that sees his life unfold in a way that he had never even considered possible for himself.
While this all plays out, Gru’s Minions (his henchmen who are tiny, yellow and can be compared to Mike and Ikes candies dressed in denim dungarees) go about their own side missions related to Gru’s main mission which are just as entertaining. This no doubt explains how they got, not just one, but two, spin-off movies.
Unfortunately, it is only the first movie of the Dreamworks franchise that is available on Netflix. So, if you are hoping to jump into the other to movies along with the minion spin-off, or short stories, it will not be possible.
Fingers crossed they will be added shortly because once you get hooked on the first movie again, you are going to watch them all in quick succession with one another.
