Set It Up

Two overworked assistants trying to set up their bosses so they can get some well-earned time off? Count us in for all the clichés!

An oldie but a goodie on Netflix is Set It Up, the insanely charming sports rom-com about two assistants trying to set up their bosses up, not because they think the two would be great together, or anything like that. It’s all because they’re hoping if the people who routinely make them work until midnight actually start a relationship, then it’ll be good for their work schedule, at the very least.

Maybe it’ll make their bosses, you know, more amenable too. Always a plus.

Of course, that means they have to spend time together, in order to do a proper setup job. And then, sparks fly. Don’t they always in romantic comedies? Add your typical disagreements, banter and the fact that she KNOWS MORE ABOUT SPORTS THAN HE DOES, and you’ve got yourself a match made in rom-com heaven.

But really, if you watch for no other reason, watch for the fact that the movie is one of the first times I felt seen as a female sports fan. Who says we only go to games to please our boyfriends? Who says we only learn stats because we want to impress a man? Some of us just like the sport! In fact, some of us like multiple sports. It’s a thing.

And when you add that to a fun romantic story and two leads with great chemistry, well, this is without a doubt one of my favorite rom-coms. Ever.
