It seems like people are always looking for something to watch on Netflix. They plow through the buzzy thing and then watch the other buzzy thing, leaving them looking for the next buzzy thing. But there’s something to be said for a palate cleanser. Sometime to watch in between those headline-grabbing and conversation-starting original movies and TV shows we hear about up and down the internet. In between your viewings of the next buzzy titles, be sure to give the indie thriller Every Time I Die, one of the month’s best new releases, a chance.

The directorial debut of Robi Michael, Every Time I Die follows Sam (Drew Fonteiro), who gets murdered at a remote lake. Following his murder, he somehow gains the ability to have his consciousness transfer to other bodies, specifically those of his friends. When he learns how to use this ability, he transfers his consciousness through the bodies of his friends in order to warn them about the killer and protect them from meeting the same fate. Through the darkness, Sam discovers something about himself, pushing him toward his true identity.

Every Time I Die made its world premiere at the Cinequest Film & Creativity Festival on March 8, 2019 before being released by Gravitas Ventures on Aug. 9, 2019. The film currently holds the coveted by very rare 100% fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes, though that figure is only based on six reviews. Of all the films featured on this list, it’s had the least visibility to a mainstream audience, but anyone with a Netflix subscription can check out the indie and get a little thrill when Every Time I Die begins streaming at the end of February.
