When Disney+ launched last November, millennials might have noticed the blatant omission of one of their childhood favorite movies. To be fair, most of them were accounted for and ready to be binged. But the underrated superhero comedy Sky High wasn’t yet available on the new platform. Well, there’s still a decent amount of waiting to until we can relive the mid-aughts cult classic, it’s finally soaring into our Disney+ watch lists at the end of the year in 2020.

Predating the current surge in superhero content at Disney, Sky High stars Michael Angarano as Will Stronghold, a freshman at Sky High, a school that teaches young superheroes how to use their superpowers. Since his parents are The Commander (Kurt Russell) and Jetstream (Kelly Preston), two of the world’s most famous superheroes, the pressure is on for Will. However, he soon realizes that his new friends Gwen (Mary Elizabeth Winstead) might actually be out for revenge for her mother, who had been taken down by his father.

Sky High comes from director Mike Mitchell, who also directed such movies as Deuce Bigalow: Male Gigolo, Surviving Christmas, Shrek Forever After and Trolls, among others. Upon release, the film earned mostly positive reception from critics and holds a respectable 73% fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes. But the filmed performed moderately at the box office, bringing in a worldwide total of $86.4 million against a $35 million budget. A sequel and TV series were ultimately canceled, though a new sequel has been in development since 2016. Check out Sky High at the end of 2020.
