Queer Eye star and activist Jonathan Van Ness ranks 235 overall in the 2019 FanSided 250 and ranks 27 among many other celebrities!

Jonathan Van Ness, grooming expert on the Netflix original Queer Eye, LGBTQ+ activist, and trailblazer, recently ranked 235 among many fandoms and celebrities in sports, entertainment, and pop culture in the FanSided 250. He also ranked no. 27 in celebrities for 2019.

This is definitely no surprise to me to see Jonathan Van Ness on this list. With Queer Eye’s positive approach to growth and self-discovery and growing success and reception with viewers, his personality has flourished throughout his time on the show has and made an impression not only on the heroes the Fab Five help in the show but also on the many viewers the show has gained.

Van Ness came out as non-binary earlier this year, increasing visibility for many others who are non-binary or genderqueer as well. He shared that he still prefers he/him/his pronouns, but doesn’t mind she/her or they/them.

He also recently shared his story of sexual abuse with the world and came out as HIV positive. Ultimately, his biggest driving force to talk about the diagnosis openly was to end the stigma associated with HIV and how many people misunderstand what being HIV positive really means. He does a lot of this through his personal memoir, Over the Top, which was released in September of this year.

Van Ness also furthered himself as a trailblazer in the media and public eye earlier this month when he made headlines (and covers!) by becoming the first non-female star on the cover of Cosmopolitan. He shared the exciting news with this tweet:

It’s really no surprise to see someone like Jonathan Van Ness on the 2019 FanSided 250 and I’m sure we’ll continue to see more of his activism, energy, and positive attitude in the upcoming years!

With the success of Queer Eye: We’re in Japan, there’s no telling what’s in store for Jonathan Van Ness and the rest of the Fab Five. That being said, Queer Eye is just a small part of what makes Van Ness the kind of celebrity and role model that he is, and the world is truly better for his constant pushing for making the world better, more loving, and accepting.
