Grey’s Anatomy ends its season 16 midseason finale with a cliffhanger and a whole lot of drama!

Grey’s Anatomy has officially made it to the halfway point of the season, which is rather hard to believe. But alas, here we are. And as expected, the episode was filled with plenty of O-M-G moments and the usual dose of Shondaland drama.

Meredith returns to Grey Sloan just in time for the fall finale, and things are busy as usual. Unfortunately, the return to work is masked with the fact that DeLuca sort of broke up with her. Big mistake, buddy. Someone is going to swoop in and take her away–which is sort of what happens.

Miranda deals with a heartbreaking tragedy, while Amelia learns that Link may not be her baby daddy after all. And then, of course, the episode ends with a cliffhanger as a car drives into the bar, trapping everyone inside of it.

The Grey’s Anatomy fall finale had plenty of things to talk about, so without further ado, let’s discuss 5 of the best moments!

The case of Amelia’s baby daddy

Despite being halfway through her pregnancy, Amelia has not gotten an ultrasound. I think a lot of it has to do with her previous pregnancy. There’s a part of her that fears what she might find out about the baby.

Luckily, she comes around to finally getting one (after Bailey promises to get one too). So, of course, when she finally does get the ultrasound, she learns something rather interesting. She’s 24 weeks pregnant, not 20.

Basically that means Link is not the baby daddy–Owen is. Dang, what is it with that man?! The man can make babies like crazy, can’t he?

I’m not sure if Amelia is going to reveal the truth, but something tells me she will have to. Time will tell.

Miranda loses the baby

It breaks my heart that this happened to Miranda, especially given how excited she was. While treating Captain Herrera from Station 19, he points out that Bailey is bleeding. Unfortunately, it didn’t take much to realize what had happened.

This is also tough because Bailey was finally getting back into her groove. Her character has been in such a bad place lately and seeing her happy felt so nice. It’s certainly going to be a great loss for the couple, but if we know them, they’ll get through it.

They have to!

Guess whose back? Meredith!

After all the back and forth and volunteering, Meredith is finally back at Grey Sloan. It took a long time to get there, but at least it happened in time for the Grey’s Anatomy fall finale. I have to say I was underwhelmed with her return, which was mostly about her split with DeLuca and a potential new boo.

All throughout the episode, Cristina was texting her about a package she sent. As it turns out, the package wasn’t a particular thing, it was a good-looking doctor. It’s a shame that our first impression of this doctor wasn’t the best. Dr. Cormac, Grey Sloan’s new chief of pediatric surgery, is a bit of a jerk.

Except for one shining moment where he decides to empathize with a young female patient of theirs. This, I suspect, is a means for us to warm up to him, but throughout the whole episode, he was so rude and condescending. But hey, he’s a present from Cristina to Meredith as she gets back to the land of doctors.

Who knows where this might lead! Sorry, DeLuca!

Yes, Jo really did do that

While Alex is out of town, Jo gets up to some funny, yet business. She’s decided to become a safe haven volunteer which involves her picking up babies that are left behind. We haven’t really seen Jo in a maternal state during her time on Grey’s Anatomy, so this was a welcome change.

Throughout the finale, Jo is pretty much attached to this baby, and I had a feeling that she was considering adopting it. Which isn’t a far-fetched thought as the end of the episode reveals.

Link comes over to find that the baby is still with Jo, at her and Alex’s house. I’m not sure if this is considering abducting a baby, so she might want to check on that. And perhaps ask Alex if he’s cool with it, while she’s at it.

Let’s not go to the bar

As Grey’s Anatomy often does, the fall finale ended on a cliffhanger. After what was a chaotic episode, things ended with some of the group at Joe’s Bar–Levi, Nico, Ben, Herrera, Helm, Jackson, and some others.

Not sure how this happened, but moments before the end, a car crashes right into the bar, trapping all of them inside. Who will survive? Will anyone die? Ugh, I have so many questions!

But, alas, we will have to wait until January to find out what happens when Grey’s Anatomy returns with a Station 19 crossover.

Grey’s Anatomy will return to ABC on Jan. 23rd at 8 PM EST!
