3. 101 Dalmatians (1961)

Director: Clyde Geronimi and Hamilton Luske

Writer: Bill Peet and Dodie Smith

Voiced by: Rod Taylor, J. Pat O’Malley, Betty Lou Gerson, Martha Wentworth, Ben Wright, Cate Bauer, Lisa Davis and David Frankham.

101 Dalmatians is based on the children’s novel The Great Dog Robbery by Dodie Smith.

This movie follows Roger (Ben Wright), a songwriter, and his dalmatian, Pongo (Rod Taylor). During their morning walk in the park, Pongo spies a female dalmatian, Perdita (Cate Bauer), who has a beautiful owner Anita (Lisa Davis). Pongo then goes through these hilarious antics to get Roger to meet Anita.

Roger and Anita, eventually, do get married, and Pongo and Perdita also fall in love. Perdita has a litter of puppies and the family is very happy until Anita’s friend, Cruella De Vil (Betty Lou Gerson), displays an unusual interest in the puppies. One night, the puppies disappear, and Pongo and Perdita enlist the aid of other dogs to find their missing puppies.

101 Dalmatians is a must-watch for the entire family. The puppies are even cute and steal the show with their playful antics, and Roger writes a devilishly funny song about Cruella De Vil.
