The Sixth Sense (1999)

The Sixth Sense is an M. Night Shymalan masterpiece about a child psychologist, played by Bruce Willis, who helps a young boy, played by Haley Joel Osment, who communicates with the dead. “I see dead people,” became a popular catchphrase and ranked in the American Film Institute’s top 50 movie quotes of all time.

Fun fact: Michael Cera auditioned for the part of Cole Sear which ultimately went to Osment. 

Pulp Fiction (1994)

Written and directed by Quentin Tarantino, Pulp Fiction is a cinematic treasure and indisputably Tarantino’s best work. Starring John Travolta, Samuel Jackson and Uma Thurman, the film centers around the lives of an eclectic group of characters, including two hitmen and a gangster’s wife.

Fun fact: The “f word” was used 265 times in Pulp Fiction, more than any other film released that year. Reservoir Dogs, another Tarantino classic, had 269 “f bombs.”

Trainspotting (1996)

Starring Ewan McGregor, Ewen Bremner and Jonny Lee Miller, Trainspotting is another cinematic treasure of the 1990s surrounding the drug scene in one of Scotland’s biggest cities. The low budget film from an unknown director at the time became a notorious part of pop culture and a cult classic for the ages.

Fun fact: McGregor lost nearly 30 pounds for the role of Renton.

The Saint (1997)

Val Kilmer stars as Simon Templar, a highly trained thief embroiled in a web of government secrets, in the Phillip Noyce action/ adventure. While his role as Templar may have earned him a Razzie Award for Worst Actor, the International Movie Database ranked The Saint as one of Kilmer’s top 10 movies.

To Wong Foo, Thanks for Everything! Julie Newmar (1995)

Wesley Snipes, Patrick Swayze and John Leguizamo star in the comedy/ drama about three drag queens who get stranded in a small town while driving cross country. It was ahead of its time in the 90s, placing drag in mainstream media, with countless iconic movie moments that still resonate with fans over 20 years later.

Fun fact: Production had to break up a physical fight between Swayze and Leguizamo.
