The Waterboy (1998)

Written by Tim Herlihy and Adam Sandler, Sandler stars as waterboy Bobby Boucher, the sheltered son of Mama Boucher, played by Kathy Bates, who discovers his talent for tackling. Henry Winkler stars as Coach Klein, who helps Bobby Boucher acclimate to the college football team. While fans might question some of Sandler’s movie roles over the years, The Waterboy is classic Sandler at his best.

Fun fact: Writer Tim Herlihy was Adam Sandler’s college roommate.

Now and Then (1995)

A star-studded cast brings this coming of age story about four friends and the summer that changed everything for life.

Starring Christina Ricci, Demi Moore and Rosie O’Donnell alongside Thora Birch, Melanie Griffith, Rita Wilson and Devon Sawa, Now and Then perfectly captures how wonderfully complicated life can be when we’re young.

Fun fact: Leonardo DiCaprio was originally cast as the Vietnam War veteran in the movie but dropped out of the project at the last minute.

As Good as It Gets (1997)

When it comes to iconic movies that came out of the 90’s, As Good as It Gets is as good as it gets.

Starring Jack Nicholson, Helen Hunt and Greg Kinnear, the film earned 53 nominations and an astounding 36 wins, including an Oscar for Nicholson’s role as Melvin Udall. After Udall is assaulted in a robbery, he forms an uncanny friendship with Carol Connelly, played by Hunt, and Simon Bishop, played by Kinnear.

Fun Fact: Helen Hunt and Jack Nicholson have a 26-year age difference. Nicholson was 60 when the film was made and Hunt was 34.

The Flintstones (1994)

They’re a modern stone-age family. The Flintstones brought the 1960’s Hanna- Barbera cartoon classic to life with a 90’s twist, earning six award wins along the way.

The star-studded cast includes John Goodman, Elizabeth Perkins, Rick Moranis, Rosie O’Donnell, Halle Berry, and the late, great Elizabeth Taylor. Things get complicated for Fred Flintstone, played by Goodman, and best friend Barney Rubble, played by Moranis, after they inadvertently learn about how devious the corporate world can be.

Fun fact: Danny DeVito was originally picked to play Barney Rubble but turned down the role because he thought his acting style was too rough for the character.

Good Burger (1997)

Dynamic comedy duo Kenan Thompson and Kel Mitchell star in the comedy about two teens who try to save the fast-food restaurant where they work. Thompson and Mitchell were two of the hardest working actors in the ’90s with major roles in television shows All That and Kenan and Kel. Thompson is currently the longest-running Saturday Night Live cast member.

Fun fact: There’s a Good Burger pop-up restaurant in Los Angeles and plans to open another location in Chicago next year.
