Stranger Things: The Duffer Brothers sign exclusive deal with Netflix
By Bryce Olin
Netflix has signed Matt and Ross Duffer, aka the Duffer Brothers, the creators of Stranger Things, to an exclusive multi-year deal for more shows and movies.
Matt and Ross Duffer, the creators of the hit Netflix series Stranger Things, signed an exclusive first-look deal with the streaming network, according to a report from Variety.
The deal means the Duffer Brothers will be making more shows and movies with Netflix for a set number of years. The report did not mention how long the deal will last, but it’s clear that the Duffer Brothers will be bringing more shows and movies to the streaming service well after Stranger Things ends.
Here’s what the Duffer Brothers had to say about their new deal with Netflix, via Variety:
"“Ted Sarandos, Cindy Holland, Brian Wright, and Matt Thunell took a huge chance on us and our show — and forever changed our lives. From our first pitch meeting to the release of Stranger Things 3, the entire team at Netflix has been nothing short of sensational, providing us with the kind of support, guidance, and creative freedom we always dreamed about. We can’t wait to tell many more stories together — beginning, of course, with a return trip to Hawkins!”"
Netflix just announced Stranger Things is coming back for season 4 with an eerie new teaser trailer.

This is, of course, an excellent deal for the Duffer Brothers and Netflix. Now, the streaming network and the creators can get to work on more projects. There is a built-in fanbase on Netflix for the Duffer Brothers and their work. Stranger Things fans will most definitely be tuning in for their other shows and movies, and so that’s excellent for them.

On the flip side, this is a great move by Netflix. We see the streaming network making more big deals with some of the most talented creators in the business, and it’s incredibly important that the streaming network continues to give their subscribers quality content, and that remains possible with the Duffer Brothers signing a deal with them.
Can you imagine if Hulu or Amazon stepped in and stole the Duffer Brothers from Netflix? That just wouldn’t make sense for Netflix. They couldn’t let that happen, so it’s a great deal for both sides that the partnership will continue into the future.
Stranger Things 4 is officially in the works, so I’m sure the Duffers will be busy with that for the next year or two. We still don’t know when to expect the new season, but we’re hoping to see it in 2020. That’s not officially ruled out, but it’s unclear when production will start.
