It’s no secret that the world’s currently riding a Brad Pitt high. The movie star has since made a splashy comeback with this summer’s blockbuster Once Upon a Time in Hollywood and his fall box office kick-starter Ad Astra. Naturally, when we’re looking forward, we’re also prone to looking back. Being so, Pitt’s 2004 historical war epic Troy returns to Netflix, and it’s the treat his fans have been waiting for. Troy definitely ranks as one of October’s best new releases.

Based on Homer’s Iliad, Brad Pitt stars in Troy as Achilles, who’s an integral part of the battle between the ancient kingdoms of Troy and Sparta (a battle you’re familiar with if you went to public high school or watched a blockbuster in the 2000s). When a new romance between the Trojan prince and the daughter of the Spartan king sparks outrage, the Spartan king’s brother takes advantage of the chaos to declare war and solidify his control of the Aegean Sea.

Troy comes from director Wolfgang Petersen, who also helmed such films as The NeverEnding Story, Air Force One, The Perfect Storm and Poseidon. The film was a box office success, raking in a worldwide gross of $497 million against a colossal budget of $185 million. (Yes, it’s one of the most expensive films of all time.) Still, Troy earned middling reviews from critics, holding a 54% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. It’s an essential watch for all Brad Pitt diehards having a moment right now. Don’t miss the epic battle when it begins streaming at the top of the month.
