We’re in such a deep era of reboots, revivals and remakes that it’s almost jarring when you come across a classic title and think, “When will they reboot this?”

Truly, it’s only a matter of time before Hollywood takes a dip further back into the archives for another round of prehistoric fun with The Flintstones (or any other cartoon of the time). In 1994, the classic cartoon was turned into a live-action film, a common practice nowadays, and it’s coming to Netflix this October.

Based on the 1960s animated sitcom of the same name, The Flintstones reunites with the Flintstone and Rubble families for a realistic take on the prehistoric comedy. Fred Flintstone (John Goodman), a well-meaning but not so smart factory worker, lends his friend Barney Rubble (Rick Moranis) money to adopt a baby. Barney then switches his IQ test with Fred’s, which allows Fred to receive a promotion, but his boss’ scheming angers Fred’s wife, Wilma (Elizabeth Perkins).

The Flintstones comes from director Brian Levant, who also directed such films as Beethoven, Jingle All the Way, Snow Dogs and Are We There Yet? The film managed to utilize its brand recognition into becoming a box office hit, bringing in a worldwide gross of $341.6 million against a production budget of $46 million. This led to the 2000 prequel, The Flintstones in Viva Rock Vegas, despite negative reviews. We’ll have to wait and see what the future holds for The Flintstones, but you can catch the live-action remake on Netflix this month.
