Riverdale creator and showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa shared the first image from the upcoming Halloween episode from Riverdale season 4!

Riverdale showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa teased the return of the Gargoyle King and the Black Hood and shared the first look at the Halloween episode from Riverdale season 4!

For those who don’t know, Aguirre-Sacasa announced the Halloween episode during the show’s panel at San Diego Comic-Con in July. The episode will be the fourth episode of the season, and it will air on The CW on Wednesday, Oct. 30.

In the image, which we’ve posted below, we can see two kids, most likely, dressed up as the Gargoyle King and the Black Hood for Halloween. It looks like they are trick-or-treating, based on the fact that the kid dressed as the Black Hood has a pumpkin-shaped bucket in his hook-less hand.

Obviously, we have to question the parental involvement, or lack thereof, to allow their kid to dress up as Riverdale’s two serial killers for the holiday.

I’m so excited for this episode. Riverdale and Halloween go hand-in-hand, to me, and it’s crazy that this will be the first Halloween episode of the series.

It’s also interesting to see what Aguirre-Sacasa means by “The night THEY come home.”

Clearly, he’s referring to the Gargoyle King and the Black Hood. It could just be a reference to these trick-or-treaters, but I don’t think so. We didn’t see any of the main villains, Penelope, Chic aka Jason aka the Gargoyle King, or Hal aka the Black Hood, actually die.

I’m thinking this trio is still alive somewhere, somehow, and they’ll make it back to Riverdale. Hopefully, it all goes down on Halloween. We likely won’t find out too much information about Riverdale season 4 for a while. The trailer will likely be released in the next month or so, but I don’t think it will reveal much about the fate of those three characters. We’ll see, though!

In addition to this storyline, we also know Betty is spending the night at home passing out candy. Aguirre-Sacasa told the crowd that information at SDCC. He also revealed a few of the characters might be rocking some costumes inspired by The CW’s Arrowverse shows.

Season 4 premieres on The CW on Wednesday, Oct. 9. You can watch the full season on Netflix US in the spring of 2020. Will you be watching?
