Despite only a brief break between episodes, Fear The Walking Dead is returning for the second half of Season 5 this weekend. Here are five things you need to know in preparation of the mid-season premiere.

Whether you’ve been keeping up with Fear The Walking Dead’s latest episodes or not, this is the perfect time to catch up. The last few episodes of Season 5 led Morgan’s group on a mission to help others and they’ve seemingly come across the clandestine group who whisked Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) away from The Walking Dead in Season 9. Nothing concrete has been established but the next set of episodes are bound to expand upon the subplot further.

As far as what the next episodes will entail, a little background on the first eight episodes of Season 5 is necessary to understand exactly what’s going on. In light of that, here’s everything you need to know before the Season 5B premiere of Fear The Walking Dead.

Warning! Spoilers for the upcoming episodes of Fear The Walking Dead follow. Read on at your own discretion.

The first thing fans need to know is Alicia (Alycia Debnam-Carey) and her friends made it over the mountains safely. They were close to a malfunctioning nuclear reactor but some well-coordinated teamwork made an escape possible. Unfortunately, escaping a radioactive zone is the least of their worries now.

Secondly and most important of all, Logan (Matt Frewer) is back. He made a mysterious proposal to Morgan (Lennie James) and Alicia in the mid-season finale and the promotional trailers for Season 5B have teased him confronting Morgan over oil fields. It’s unclear why Logan would want access to an oil field as there are few refineries left working to convert the fuel into gasoline but maybe he knows of one that’s still functioning.

Another point worth mentioning is Alicia seems to be okay. She was exposed to radioactive walker blood in the mid-season finale which gave fans some concern for her future. The good news is glimpses of Alicia training with Morgan suggest she wasn’t infected after all. There’s still time for an illness to emerge but Alicia is the last fan-favorite character on the show — killing her off would likely be the final straw for a majority of fans — especially when the outrage over Madison Clarke’s death only recently died down.

One other point that needs to be brought up is Daniel (Ruben Blades) rejoining the group. What’s interesting is not that he’s back but the fact that Mr. Salazar also seems to be bonding with the group. The promo trailer depicts him playing chess with Dwight (Austin Amelio) indicating a possible friendship brewing.

As for Dwight, the SDCC trailer also revealed that he and Sarah (Mo Collins) would be riding together in what appears to be a last-stand of sorts. This gives us the impression that Dwight has turned over a new leaf and he’s genuinely bonding with his new friends. Let’s just hope his actions aren’t a precursor to a coming death.

Lastly, the gang is going to get a little bigger when season five returns for its second half. Peter Jacobson, Colby Minifie and Colby Hollman are joining the cast in undetermined roles, adding yet more characters to a cast that only seems to be growing. The casting news was announced at San Diego Comic-Con earlier this year.

While we don’t know much else about their characters, a glimpse at June’s group in the Comic-Con trailer shows Jacobson’s character standing alongside them. The important bit is that they’re in a standoff with their guns raised. Jacobson’s character is prepared to start shooting so that’s likely a good indication of him joining Morgan and the others. Keep in mind that a premature death for Jacobson’s character isn’t out of the cards either.
