At San Diego Comic-Con 2019, Lennie James was asked how his character would react to the news of Rick Grimes being taken by the Helicopter People, and James’ answer may be a hint of what’s to come.

Lennie James left The Walking Dead to join its’ companion series on AMC some time ago but he just dropped a hint that he may be making yet another move.

At SDCC 2019, James was asked how Morgan would react to the news of Rick going missing during a Q&A portion. James responded by saying that Morgan would probably go out in search of his friend. We don’t know if Morgan will ditch his new friends to save an old one — or bring them along for the ride — but his priority is bound to shift towards Rick if the news were to reach him.

The other reason we’re starting to think Morgan will seek out his old friend is that Fear’s timeline is catching up to The Walking Dead — before the massive time-jump that is.

If we look at the timeline before the jump in Season Nine, TWD is ahead of its’ companion series by eighteen months. And a year’s time has passed since Morgan joined them, leaving only a six-month gap between the present day and the day Rick was picked up by the Helicopter People.

So with Fear The Walking Dead’s timeline closing in on a pivotal day in Walking Dead history, we’re starting to think the companion series could be more involved in Rick’s rescue than previously thought. There’s also the matter of Morgan’s group interacting with members of CRM, which could set the stage for them to appear in The Walking Dead movies.

For those who don’t remember, Althea (Maggie Grace) met one of the clandestine group’s soldiers on an investigation. Isabelle (Sydney Lemmon) didn’t say much during their encounter, though her group’s consistent presence in Fear The Walking Dead’s universe is bringing our main group of survivors closer to discovering their whereabouts.

Additionally, Althea confided in June (Jenna Elfman) the truth about Isabelle and she may wind up revealing the truth to everyone at some point. After that, the group’s next move could feasibly be to seek out these soldiers. And said search would inevitably lead Morgan (Lennie James) back to Rick Grimes.
