Riverdale season 4: Fun and scary Halloween episode in the works
By Bryce Olin
Riverdale season 4 will feature a Halloween episode, and a few of the Arrowverse costumes might make an appearance. Showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa shared the news at San Diego Comic-Con.
Get your costumes and candy ready, Riverdale fans! We’re going to experience Halloween for the first time in Riverdale season 4, which is getting back to its high school roots and focus on senior year.
The Halloween episode news was one of the most talked about things during the Riverdale panel and press room from San Diego Comic-Con. Showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa broke the news to fans during the panel from Hall H about the Halloween episode, which will air on Oct. 30, 2019.
According to a report from ComicBook.com, Aguirre-Sacasa revealed the Halloween episode will be the fourth episode of the season.
Here’s what Aguirre-Sacasa said during the panel at SDCC:
"“We’ve never been able to do a Halloween episode because of scheduling and it’s just never worked out. We’ve got a really fun, spooky episode for everyone.”"
I’m so excited for the Halloween episode in season 4! This is the perfect show to really showcase Halloween in a small town, and that should be a really cool canvas for the writers to create something good in the new season. There’s nothing creepier than Halloween, and there’s not a scarier small town than Riverdale, so it seems like a match made in heaven – or hell.
During the panel, Aguirre-Sacasa also teased a “fun story, a scary story” for Betty, according to the report. Betty is passing out candy from the “Ex-Cooper House” on Halloween, but that’s not stopping the writers from bringing something scary to the table.
With Jughead at the new Prep school, hopefully, Archie and Veronica, or even cousin Cheryl, will be nearby to lend Betty a hand if things get too out of control. Maybe she can call her long-lost bro Charles and the FBI if it gets too crazy?
So, what will our heroes be dressed up as? Will there be a massive Riverdale High Halloween party? We don’t know all the details yet, but Aguirre-Sacasa did hint that a few of our favorite stars might be borrowing some costumes from the Arrowverse shows that, like Riverdale, also film in Vancouver, BC. In other words, DC superheroes are coming to Riverdale for Halloween!
Riverdale season 4 premieres on The CW on Wednesday, Oct. 9. The season, like season 2 and 3, will also consist of 22 episodes, and it will finish in the spring of 2020. A week after the season finale, all episodes of season 4 will be added to Netflix US.
