Marvel’s Cloak And Dagger Season 3: Will Freeform renew their sole superhero series?

It’s been some time since we’ve heard anything from Freeform about its’ sole superhero series Cloak And Dagger, which brings up the question of whether or not the network will renew the show for a third season. Will they?

If you’re all caught up on Marvel’s Cloak And Dagger, then you know Season 2 wrapped up at the end of May. That’s given Freeform about two months to come to a determination on the show’s fate but they’ve yet to make a statement regarding the matter. It’s unclear why though it may just be too soon for Freeform to make a decision.

The Twitter accounts attached to Cloak And Dagger’s writing staff and Joe Pokaski have avoided the subject just the same. Each of the accounts attached to C&D has been vocal and very communicative with fans during the show’s run on television, but they’ve seemingly strayed from the conversation ever since. Their silence, however, is reasonable when we consider the NDA’s (Nondisclosure Agreements) they had to sign when joining the production.

Freeform, on the other hand, should’ve said something by now. The network owes it to fans who tuned in every day — especially when Marvel’s Cloak And Dagger was inconveniently scheduled for early Friday afternoons.

While most high-profile shows get primetime slots on Friday nights, C&D got stuck with an afternoon release time on the West Coast — a time when most people are either on the way home from school or work or still at their day jobs.

The point is Freeform should give fans some kind of update. Regardless of how vague they need to make it, as long as a representative from Freeform can give us a hint in which direction the show is going, fans will be happy. The question is: Does the network intend to renew C&D or not?

Only time will tell, so in the meantime, fans should stay on their toes for any surprise announcements. The network will likely make an announcement closer to NYCC 2019 in October, giving us a good timeframe of when to expect something. They may not use the event itself but around that time seems feasible. Keep in mind that the announcement of Cloak And Dagger being renewed for a junior season could easily be saved for Freeform’s presentations at New York Comic-Con too.

There is one other factor that could potentially tip the scales in Cloak And Dagger’s favor — it’s nomination at the Saturn Awards. The Freeform show was nominated for Best Superhero Television Series at the 2019 Saturn Awards, going head-to-head with fan-favorites like Arrow and The Flash. Those two are DC Comics series but Cloak And Dagger has been in direct competition with them since arriving on the scene.

Cloak And Dagger sadly didn’t win at the Saturn Awards. The good news, however, is that being nominated means C&D is on people’s radars. And as long as fans remain invested in the show, that means Freeform will have a reason to keep it going.
