9. Styling Hollywood

Season: 1

Executive Produced By: Angela Rae Berg

Starring: Jason Bolden, Adair Curtis

Release Date: Friday, Aug. 30

With a subscription to Netflix, you can pretty much watch any kind of film or television entertainment you want. Comedy, drama, sci-fi, horror, animated, documentary, reality competition, and every single thing in between. The streaming service has built a formidable library of original content that spans every conceivable genre. While we’re all mostly on board for the traditional comedy/drama TV series, this month a new reality series joins the ranks.

Styling Hollywood seems to take a page from the E! Network’s reality series playbook and centers itself in the glamorous world of a Hollywood styling. The series following celebrity stylist Jason Bolden and his husband, interior designer Adair Curtis, as they balance their lifestyle company JSN STUDIO with the peaks and valleys of marriage. The series also features their employees as well as clients they curate “Black Girl Magic” for by the likes of Gabrielle Union, Eve, and Ava DuVernay.

Although there’s not much known about Styling Hollywood from photos to a teaser trailer as of this writing, it sounds more closely akin to Kristin Cavallari’s reality series Very Cavallari, which documents the inner workings of her own lifestyle business, than to Queer Eye (which it will surely receive comparisons to nonetheless). At any rate, Styling Hollywood could very well be a delightful change of pace from the heavier original content coming this month, and you can catch all of the first-season episodes when they drop at the end of August.
