Murray

Good old “conspiracy theorist” and “matchmaker” Murray Bauman (Brett Gelman)…

We met him before in season 2 when Jonathan and Nancy wanted to try to expose Hawkins Lab to get some #justiceforBarb and even got the pair to admit their feelings for one another. I was happy to see him come back for season 3 and prove once again that he’s the go-to guy for all things risky and conspiracy-driven.

We saw Murray again in season 3 when Hopper and Joyce brought Alexei to him in hopes that he would be able to translate was Alexei was saying in Russian. The two ended up forming a very sweet friendship that they took all the way to Alexei’s unfortunate death. I think Murray was a nice friend to Alexei, who is someone who probably didn’t really have someone he could call a “friend”. He helped Murray live out his “American Dream” for a little while, especially at the Fun Fair.

Ultimately, Murray was able to provide the translation needed for Hopper and Joyce to understand that a portal to the Upside Down was in the works right underneath the Starcourt Mall in Hawkins. Without him, who knows how long it would’ve taken for them to find out what Alexei was saying, no matter how funny Joyce’s attempted communication with him was. He translated Alexei’s instructions about how to access the keys to turn off the machine and how they needed to enter Planck’s Constant to get into the vault.

Not only did he provide a much-needed Russian translation, but he also continued being a matchmaker by continuously trying to get Hopper and Joyce to admit their true feelings for one another after witnessing their constant bickering. Good to know that Murray is, in fact, a #jopper fan.

Murray may even be a big hero leading into season 4, as we recently learned of a voice mail message that could hint to some interesting developments with a certain character moving forward.
