Spoilers for Stranger Things 3 to follow! Don’t continue unless you’ve finished the season!

Stranger Things 3 brought the fun, action, and sadness, and fans were quick to form theories about the apparent death of beloved father and Chief of Police, Jim Hopper. T

he show’s post-credit scene this season definitely raised some questions and fan theories about Hopper. I mean, it has to be him, right? We didn’t actually see Hopper’s body at the end of the portal’s explosion and it’s entirely possible that he was kidnapped by the Russians.

Esquire shared an article describing what fans were discovering through the weekend following the new season’s release.

I’ve actually noticed this as well, but never put the pieces together. David Harbor’s profile picture on his Instagram page had been changing each day to form a series of numbers. If we look back on what happened in season 3, the numbers from the pictures correspond to Murray Bauman’s phone number that he gave Hopper: 618-625-8313.

Over the weekend, a call to this number left fans with this mysterious message from Murray:

"Hi, you have reached the residence of Murray Bauman. Mom, if this is you, please hang up and call me between the hours of 5 and 6 p.m. as previously discussed, okay? If this is Joyce, Joyce, thank you for calling, I have been trying to reach ya. I have an update. It’s about, well, it’s probably best if we speak in person. It’s not good or bad, but it’s something…"

Umm… What? Does Murray know what happened to Hopper? He very well could. Murray was the one who spoke Russian and did all of the communication with those in the underground lab. Maybe they shared information about Hopper with Murray, thinking he was an ally, not knowing his connection to that “American” they have hostage?

Hopper could have escaped as well and somehow got in touch with Murray. No matter what exactly happened, it’s clear that it is sensitive information and Murray doesn’t want anyone knowing. For all we know, with the increased Russian involvement in Hawkins, they could be tracking and tapping communication devices. Why else would he want to speak in person with Joyce?

What do you think about Murray’s message? Is Hopper out there somewhere? Let us know in the comments!
