And, to the joy of longtime fans of Henson’s awesome puppetry work, the prequel will follow the original’s steps and be 100% puppetry and no CGI!

At SDCC, the Dark Crystal panel gave us a sneak peek of what’s coming and how the incredible voice cast, puppeteers and crew are bringing together the most beautiful act of manual puppets the world will ever see and according to John Tartaglia, we ain’t ready for it! In fact, Mark Hamill gave fans his own teaser of how his character will sound like at SDCC and he sounds seriously creepy! He is the man behind Chucky after all! In the prequel, Hamill is playing the role of The Scientist, a Skeksis and THIS is how he’ll sound like:

Hamill was also awarded the 2019 ICON Award and the crowd cheered and roared for him. The 67-year-old actor said a few words as he accepted the honor he very much deserves:

"“Listen, I told you how lucky I feel to be able to do all the things that I loved as a kid and get paid for it, so this just… seems wildly excessive, but it is much appreciated. I have to tell you, actors get up and they say, ‘Oh, I need to share this with [my] agent’ or whatever, but listen guys, if it weren’t for you, I certainly wouldn’t be standing here. I started coming to these Cons years before I met George! I remember I was at the Con when they said, ‘Did you hear? There’s gonna be 5,000 people this year!’ And we were like, ‘Wow! How many are women!?’ So I thank you very, very much.”"

Lisa Henson, Jim’s daughter, told Entertainment Weekly during the panel interviews that the prequel is a very personal project to her and a challenge.

"“It was a very special project very, very close to [my father’s] heart and he found it to be the biggest challenge and his most personal film…it was developed through great respect and love of the original, so ultimately we were not afraid to do it. It was a lot to achieve, to push for… but to be in Hall H saying it’s real is like the greatest moment of my professional life. It’s come out so much better than I ever dreamed, and my family’s so proud and the company’s so proud as well.”"

Will you be checking the prequel out? We cannot wait till it finally premieres! The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance will arrive this Aug. 30. Mark your calendars!
