The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance release date and first look

The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance, the prequel to the classic Jim Henson movie The Dark Crystal, is coming to Netflix as a 10-episode adventure on Aug. 30.

Netflix announced the release date and shared the first look at The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance! The long-awaited prequel to Jim Henson and Frank Oz’s 80s fantasy-adventure masterpiece The Dark Crystal is finally coming to Netflix on Aug. 30.

Netflix also shared the first look at the three heroes in the new series, and we have shared those images below. Taron Egerton, best known for roles in Rocketman and Kingsman: The Secret Service, Nathalie Emmanuel of Game of Thrones and Anya Taylor-Joy star in the series.

Here is the synopsis for the series, via the Netflix press release:

"The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance returns to the world of Thra with an all new adventure. When three Gelfling discover the horrifying secret behind the Skeksis’ power, they set out on an epic journey to ignite the fires of rebellion and save their world."

Other yet to be named Gelflings are voiced by Caitriona Balfe, Helena Bonham Carter, Harris Dickinson, Natalie Dormer, Eddie Izzard, Theo James, Toby Jones, Shazad Latif, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Mark Strong, and Alicia Vikander.

The Skeksis and the Mystics are voiced by Harvey Fierstein, Mark Hamill, Ralph Ineson, Jason Isaacs, Keegan-Michael Key, Ólafur Darri Ólafsson, Simon Pegg, and Andy Samberg. It’s a fantastic cast!

In keeping with the original movie, The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance was shot with a mix of classic puppetry and CGI. That’s why it looks very similar to the original film, and that’s something fans will like.
