15. Santa Clarita Diet

Cast: Drew Barrymore, Timothy Olyphant, Liv Hewson, Skyler Gisondo

Synopsis: The lives of married couple and real estate agents Sheila (Barrymore) and Joel Hammond (Olyphant) take a dark and dangerously hungry turn when Sheila becomes a zombie. Can she live a normal life as a mother and wife without going too hungry?

Why you need to watch: You’ve likely heard about Drew Barrymore’s Santa Clarita Diet before, but have you actually checked it out? The comedy series was recently cancelled by Netflix, so chances are you weren’t watching, and that’s a shame! Santa Clarita Diet is one of the purest shows on the streaming giant.

Heavily underrated, Santa Clarita Diet provides many laughs and performances from Olyphant and Barrymore like you’ve never seen before, particularly Barrymore. The actress is obviously having a great time stretching her acting chops (and often, fingers) portraying such a colorful character like Sheila.

Not only is Barrymore’s performance unique, but so is the entire genre of the series. This isn’t your average zombie-drama, it’s more lighthearted. However, at the same time, do expect a few scenes (okay, a lot of scenes) that aren’t easy to gulp down. Let’s just say you shouldn’t watch if you are sensitive or have found other zombie movies or TV shows difficult to watch, while a fun moment or line does always follow blood and guts, some viewers may still find it difficult to chew!

Another warning for those who plan on checking out Santa Clarita Diet – as previously mentioned, the comedy has been cancelled and it does leave fans with a massive cliffhanger. One that may make you angry to know we may never learn what happens next (it concerns the fate of a main character). Many fans are still hopeful another network will save the comedy, but at the moment, just lower your expectations going in.
