In Season 5, Episode 4 “Toldja”, Daniel and Charlie get the opportunity to travel together for the first time. They become acquainted when Daniel spots her in the backseat, bonding over a shared interest in music. Charlie never mentioned any enthusiasm in the hobby before but it seems like there’s more we don’t know about her.
The purpose of their drive is to retrieve supplies from a warehouse overrun by walkers. Daniel is familiar with the people who used to maintain the cache, though he has some concerns seeing as how they executed everyone inside. He reveals this dark reality to Charlie as they stare into a convenience store full of undead.

While the new duo scope out an entrance, Skidmark the cat inadvertently causes a ruckus out front. This results in a machine gun inside misfiring, striking Daniel’s car all through its sides. Charlie and Daniel still use it to make a getaway but they wind up trailing the horde of walkers with them.
To get the undead off of their trail, Daniel sends Charlie back to his camp while he distracts the herd. He even tells Victor to take the plane he requested and go. The problem is Victor can’t leave Daniel behind. Whether it’s because of past guilt or merely doing the right thing, Victor Strand chooses to stay and help. Sarah and Wendell also lend a hand.
What they do is chase after Daniel on the road. The trio manages to reach him right before the dead close in. Daniel rushes over to the SWAT van but finds the machine guns have malfunctioned. He’s then forced to hide under the vehicle as the undead surround him.
Once Daniel realizes what’s about to take place, he fights off as many as he can. They’re about to overtake Daniel when Victor comes running out of his truck, drawing them to him. Victor then uses the propellers from the towed plane to liquify the herd. It damages the plane to an unknown degree, though the loss was worth helping an old friend.

Meanwhile in the woods, Morgan (Lennie James) and Alicia (Alycia Debnam-Carey) discover that the kids had been lying to them all along. Dylan (Cooper Dodson) reveals the truth to Luciana (Danay Garcia) when he learns that Annie (Bailey Gavulic) and Max (Ethan Suess) are in serious danger. Nevertheless, Alicia and Morgan continue their search.
Upon finding them, Annie and Max continue to resist Morgan’s proposal. He and Alicia keep insisting that they can help each other but the kids don’t want any part in the plan. It isn’t until Morgan puts two and two together about their origin, coming to a startling epiphany.
The conclusion Morgan comes to is that the campsite full of walkers discovered in “The Hurt That Will Happen” were at one time Annie and Max’s parents. The kids alongside them were presumably orphaned at the same time, leaving the younglings to fend for themselves.
The good news is Annie’s friends eventually come around, allowing Morgan and Alicia to accompany them. They travel through the forest in search of Althea (Maggie Grace) but they wind up finding something else entirely unexpected — a helicopter — the same one that picked up Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) on The Walking Dead. And so, the plot thickens even further.
