13 Reasons Why star Katherine Langford was supposed to have a role in Avengers: Endgame, but her role was cut. Now, we know why. Spoilers for Endgame ahead!

13 Reasons Why star Katherine Langford was cast in the biggest movie of all time, Avengers: Endgame, but her role in the film was cut, according to a report from Entertainment Weekly.

EW sat down with Endgame directors Joe and Anthony Russo and discussed why Langford was not in the movie, what her role in the film would have been and more.

I had totally forgotten all about Langford’s supposed role in Endgame. We didn’t see her in any of the promotional material leading up to the premiere, and I just spaced it. As it turns out, her role didn’t make the movie’s final cut.

Again, there are major spoilers ahead for Avengers: Endgame! If you haven’t seen the movie, turn back right now!

Okay, so if you’re still reading, you want to know who Langford was supposed to play in Endgame. According to the report, Langford was supposed to play the grown-up version of Morgan, Tony Stark’s daughter.

In Endgame, we meet the 5-year-old version of Morgan, played by Lexi Rabe, when Captain America, Black Widow and Ant-Man pay Tony a visit and try to convince him to travel back in time in a larger plot to defeat Thanos. While everyone has lost a lot, and Tony has too, Tony is also living a good life as Morgan’s father.

So, how would an older Morgan been brought into the movie?

The Russo Brothers told EW that older Morgan would have visited Tony in the same way that the young Gamora visited Thanos after the Snap. In the scene, the younger Gamora asks Thanos what the Snap cost him.

After Tony steals the Infinity Stones and uses the Snap to wipe out Thanos and his forces, Tony would have been transported to that same plane of reality that would have allowed him to converse with his daughter before moving on, according to the report.

It sounds like it was cut because there was just A LOT going on in that final scene.

Here’s what Joe Russo told EW:

"“The intention was that his future daughter … forgave him and gave him peace to go,” Joe said. “But it was just too many ideas in an overly complicated movie.”"

He also added that the scene really confused audiences when it was tested.

To me, this scene sounds similar to the King’s Cross Station scene in Harry Potter when Harry meets with Professor Dumbledore. It worked in that movie very well, but it’s clear Endgame didn’t need that kind of closure. After seeing Endgame, I think it was so important to keep it simple. It added emotional weight to the scene to let the performers do what they do best.
