13 Reasons Why season 3 expected to be released this summer on Netflix

Based on the production wrapping in February, 13 Reasons Why season 3 will likely be released on Netflix this summer.

It’s been almost a year since 13 Reasons Why season 2 premiered on Netflix on May 18, 2018, and we still haven’t heard much about the 13 Reasons Why season 3 release date. At this point in time, it seems likely that 13 Reasons Why season 3 will be added to Netflix this summer.

Netflix has not commented on the news, and we’re piecing together a lot of information to make the season 3 release date prediction. But, it’s the best we can do right now.

UPDATE: Netflix announces 13 Reasons Why season 3 is coming in “second half of 2019,” according to Deadline. 

There was a lot of hope among 13 Reasons Why fans that the new season would be released on Netflix in the spring around May, like season 2. That looks increasingly more unlikely. And, that’s because, according to SF Gate, 13 Reasons Why season 3 wrapped production in February 2019.

It’s really difficult to turn around a show from production to release in only a few short months. For reference, it looks like season 2 wrapped filming in late 2017, and the season was released in May 2018, according to Digital Spy. That’s about a six-month gap between the end of production and the season’s release date. That seems pretty standard for more Netflix dramas.

If that’s the case, you can expect to see 13 Reasons Why season 3 in July or August 2019. That gives the editing team time to finish the show and it gives Netflix enough time to properly promote the release of the season.

Of course, there’s always a chance we could see the season this spring if they can somehow expedite this process. The show hasn’t won any Emmys, but it has been nominated, and for the show to be nominated for the 2019 Emmys, the season must be released before the end of May.

As mentioned, it doesn’t seem very likely that would be the case for Netflix. We haven’t heard anything from Netflix about the new season recently, and we haven’t seen any teasers or trailers yet. Granted, that might not mean much because Netflix announced the season 2 release date less than three weeks before the season premiered and only shared the trailer about 10 days before the season arrived.
