The Last Kingdom is clearly better than Game of Thrones

2. The battles
Game of Thrones does have a lot of good about it. From the intricate details and foreshadowing, you can’t fault George R.R. Martin’s writing. He is the king of laying the foundations early on, only to be used one or two books later.
However, what it does lack is the action. There aren’t many battles in the HBO series, which can really annoy fans. Now, in their defense, when they do get a battle, it’s an epic one. But they come so few and far between it gets frustrating, especially when the battle begins, they skip the actual battle part, and the battle ends moments later.
The Last Kingdom, on the other hand, has a lot of battles. And I do mean a lot. At least three times more. None of them are quite as big and grand as the few we get in in Game of Thrones, but we get so many battles in the Netflix Original that we don’t notice it as much.
3. The books
As we all know, Game of Thrones was originally a book series before becoming the gigantic TV series we know today. Written by George R.R. Martin, the book series started out in 1996 and there are currently five books in the series to read, with many spin-offs as well.
While George R.R. Martin is clearly a very talented writer, what he isn’t, however, is quick. Fans have been eagerly waiting for the sixth book, “Winds of Winter,” to arrive, as in almost eight years, and fans are starting to get annoyed at the length of time it is taking.
The Last Kingdom also started out as a book before coming to Netflix, and Game of Thrones fans wish they had an author who produced books as quick as Bernard Cornwell. The book series started out in 2004, we’re currently on book 11, with the last one being published in 2018. So, on average, The Last Kingdom books fans get a new book every year and three months.
