4. The names

Ever tried remembering the names of all the characters in Game of Thrones? Trust me, it’s impossible. Outside of the main characters like Jon Snow and Cersei Lannister, you pretty much start giving everyone little nicknames.

Like, half melted face grumpy man, the man with no balls, red lady who can birth demon babies, etc. The worst part of remembering the characters names is by the time you do, they end up getting killed off. So, you kinda get left wondering what the heck the point is.

The Last Kingdom is much easier because a) they have fewer characters, so it is much easier to remember them all, and b) the majority of characters have either the same name or are a slight variation on the name, so they’re easy enough to remember.

For example, Uhtred, is the Son of Uhtred and Ragnar, is the Son of Ragnar.

5. Production cost

Making a TV show is not cheap and as Game of Thrones has gone on for longer it has only increased in cost per episode. The budget per episode increased from $6 Million to $8 Million between 2012 and 2015. The sixth season cost an estimated $10 Million per episode to make and the final season of the series has one of the largest budgets to date.

The Last Kingdom has a much smaller budget in comparison. The Netflix Original is rumored to have cost an estimated $10 Million to make in total. So much, much less.

However, despite the difference in production cost between the two shows, you honestly wouldn’t be able to tell the difference when watching Game of Thrones and The Last Kingdom and comparing the two.

The only noticeable difference is the CGI, because Game of Thrones has dragons and The Last Kingdom does not. Apart from that, you would think they where both made with similar budgets.

Imagine what The Last Kingdom could have produced with a budget like Game of Thrones?

So, what do you think? Are you like me? Do you think the Netflix original is way better than the HBO series? Are there any reasons I have missed that you think is worth mentioning? Drop a comment just below sharing your thoughts.
