In the fifth episode of The Act, we see Gypsy’s relationship with Nick develop further. They meet in-person for the first time, share many other firsts, and start a plan to be together forever—despite Dee Dee’s immediate disapproval.

In episode five of The Act, “Plan B” starts with Gypsy and Nick’s budding relationship. Time has passed once again and it’s now 2015—the same year that Gypsy made a hugely controversial decision in her life.

Warning! Potential spoilers for the remaining episodes of The Act follow. You’ve been warned.

During this point in the story, Gypsy and Nick are frequently video-chatting with each other. They’ve even begun sharing intimate moments on webcam. They’re so involved but there’s one thing—Dee Dee has no idea.

In a slight step away from Gypsy’s story, the audience gets a better look at Nick’s life in the real world. He lives in Wisconsin and works at a local pizza shop, though not efficiently. He tries making pizza after pizza, but after a few failed attempts, he’s demoted to a sign-holder outside of the shop. All in all, he seems to live a somewhat boring, quiet life. His communications with Gypsy, however, seem to be the only uplifting moments of his day.

To make her boyfriend happy, Gypsy buys Nick a bus pass to visit her. They decide to bump into each other at a viewing of Cinderella in a movie theater, striking up a conversation. It’s important to Gypsy for her mom to meet Nick so she sets up this meet regardless of the possible repercussions.

At the theater, Gypsy anxiously waits for Nick in the lobby. After a short period of time, Nick shows up. They pretend to meet for the first time. When Dee Dee sees them together, she quickly wheels Gypsy away to avoid Nick.

Despite this sly attempt, Nick sits directly behind them in the theater. Dee Dee wheels her daughter away multiple times as Nick tries to sit and talk with them. He finally gives up, much to Gypsy’s disappointment.

Gypsy leaves the movie to use the restroom then quickly finds Nick in the family restroom. It’s here that he expresses his discontent for the situation. Strangely, they embrace and kiss in the bathroom while Dee Dee searches the theater for Gypsy. Dee Dee eventually gives up looking while Gypsy becomes intimate with Nick.

Following their rendezvous, they share an awkward goodbye. In the middle of this, Dee Dee intervenes and doesn’t let them talk to each other.

Later in the day, Nick calls their house and tells her the whole truth. He introduces himself, expresses his love for Gypsy, and says they have been together for years. Dee Dee doesn’t waste any time and ties her daughter to the bed.

After hours of being tied up, Gypsy is finally freed and texts Nick a very important message. She says she needs Victor—Nick’s evil personality. Gypsy wants Victor to help kill her mother because she can’t do it alone.

The tension between the Blanchards eventually boils over and they head to a mall together. There, Gypsy sneaks away to purchase a knife. When Gypsy is found, she sneakily shows her mom a stuffed animal she said she snuck away to buy for her. Dee Dee believes her daughter is making a turnaround but that’s the farthest thing from the truth.
