To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before sequel gets one star bigger. 13 Reasons Why’s Ross Butler joins in the role of a best friend.

Last week, To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before‘s sequel cast its permanent John Ambrose. Now it’s time for a13 Reasons Why star in the role of Peter Kavinsky’s best friend. Oh, and it just so happens the actors are best friends in real life, according to Entertainment Weekly.

Ross Butler, who is best known as Zach Dempsey in the Netflix Original, 13 Reasons Why, will play Trevor Pike. Mentioned in the original book, he only appears in the second novel and that meant casting was important for the movie. Trevor and Peter are best friends and they need that chemistry on the screen.

Fortunately, Dempsey and Noah Centineo are best friends in real life. It was that real chemistry between them that was the main reason Dempsey was pulled onto another Netflix project.

The best part of the news is knowing that production is officially underway for the sequel to the pleasantly surprising hit To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before. Dempsey shared the news about joining the cast on his Twitter with a behind-the-scenes video.

Trevor isn’t just Peter’s friend, though. He’s Lara Jean’s childhood friend in the novels. He can often be a sounding board, which makes Butler the perfect star for the role. We saw how he could be a person to talk to in 13 Reasons Why, even if things with Hannah didn’t work out because of his need to fit in with others.

Peter is certainly going to need a friend in the upcoming sequel. During the mid-credit scene, John Ambrose turned up with letter in hand. He had received Lara Jean’s letter after all and he was coming back to woo this girl who got away. Jordan Fisher has already been cast in the role permanently, taking over Jordan Burtchett, who played the role in the short mid-credit scene.

John Ambrose and Lara Jean realize that there is still a spark between then. P.S. I Still Love You focuses on LJ’s feelings for John Ambrose while having feelings for Peter. Can she be in love with two guys? Will Peter have to fight someone for his girl?
