A swarm of giant killer bats attack our lead actors in the new post for Netflix’s upcoming horror film The Silence, coming soon.

Late last week, Netflix gave its fans the surprise announcement that on April 10 they will be releasing the horror film The Silence about a species of giant killer bats called Vesps who are bringing about worldwide destruction.

The film stars Netflix regulars Kiernan Shipka and Miranda Otto (both Chilling Adventures of Sabrina) as well as Stanley Tucci (The Hunger Games) and John Corbett (My Big Fat Greek Wedding). The film is directed by modern horror staple John Leonetti (Annabelle)

Now, the streaming service has released the official poster for the film and it looks downright crazy.

Check out the poster, via Rotten Tomatoes:

The poster for the film very much focuses on the sheer numbers of the Vesps and how big of a threat they really are for our heroes who are situated below them on the poster. The poster also advertises the conceit of the movie, that sound attracts the monsters (much like last year’s A Quiet Place), with the tagline: “they’re listening”.

The poster also advertises Tucci’s academy award credits which further supports the idea that while the premise of giant killer bats may seem like something out of a B-horror movie, this film is taking it very seriously.

The synopsis for the film goes as follows, via Netflix:

"“When the world is under attack from terrifying creatures who hunt their human prey by sound, 16-year old Ally Andrews (Shipka), who lost her hearing at 13, and her family seeks refuge in a remote haven. But they discover a sinister cult who are eager to exploit Ally’s heightened senses.”"

Clearly, Tucci and Shipka are the two stars that Netflix is pushing in their advertising for this film, which makes sense given Shipka’s Netflix star-power and Tucci’s Hollywood pull.

The Silence is shaping up to be Netflix’s new Bird Box and clearly, the streaming service is pushing it that way in order to hopefully capture the same cultural moment. While that remains to be seen the film certainly does look exciting for both Netflix fans and horror fans alike.
