Stranger Things has officially released the trailer for season 3. Here are 5 questions we have after watching the new footage!

After teasing viewers earlier this week with a video featuring rats, Netflix has finally dropped the full trailer for Stranger Things 3. The season which drops on July 4 is easily Netflix’s most-anticipated premiere of the year. Thankfully, fans now have a taste of what’s to come in the town of Hawkins this summer.

It’s 1985 and the kids are growing up. They might be also be growing apart a little bit but something major is about to take hold of their town which brings them back together. As changes arise in the lives of our favorite characters, there are also going to be some updates to the small Indiana town.

Mayor Kline is making some updates to Hawkins, most notably, the construction of the Starcourt Mall. Even though the townspeople don’t seem too happy with the new establishment, it looks like it will be a hit with the younger generation. It might also be the site of some kind of violent showdown involving Eleven and the crew.

So what exactly is going down in Hawkins this season? Well, it doesn’t look good. Despite signs of living a normal life, the group is carrying around some heavy secrets. Everything is about to spiral downhill again so let’s hope the town is ready.

Watch the full trailer for Stranger Things 3 below and check out the questions we have after watching the footage.

5. Who is the man with the gun at the fair?

The Starcourt Mall won’t be the only hot spot for the crew this summer. The Fun Fair looks to be another setting for something suspicious going down in Hawkins. In the trailer, Hopper is heard telling Joyce that he wants her to feel safe and that the town can still be her home.

During the dialogue, a scene is shown with Hopper (with a few fresh cuts on his face) at the fair. It also reveals an armed man walking through a hall of mirrors in a fun house. But who is this man and who is his target? Later in the trailer, Hopper has the man’s gun but it’s unclear if Hopper is the one he was looking for. Hopper is then seen running through the fair hand-in-hand with Joyce.

It is also important to note that Mayor Kline is the one who brought the fair to town. By the looks of the protestors, citizens don’t seem too happy with the new mayor. Is the fair just another distraction for something darker going down in Hawkins at the hands of Mayor Kline?

4. Why is Eleven on a beach?

Eleven is seemingly adapting well to her semi-normal teenage life. She obviously struck up a friendship with Max and still seems to be on good terms with Mike. But of course, the threats are still out there. In the trailer, Eleven is seen on a darkened beach as the sky lights up with red hues. The scene is similar to Will’s vision last season outside of the arcade when he first saw the Mind Flayer.

She is later seen in the frozen food aisle of the supermarket in front of the Eggo waffles with a bandana over her eyes. Considering she’s wearing the same shirt, it looks like she’s using her mind ability to seek out another dimension for a vital piece of information. Whatever Eleven is trying to find out, it leads to the Starcourt Mall. It also looks like her powers are getting stronger.

3. Is the town being mind-controlled?

In the final minute of the trailer, there’s a montage of quick shots. Stranger Things purposely intends not to reveal too much of the new season but it’s our job to put the pieces of the puzzle together. There’s obvious unrest in the town and some kind of impending danger. But outside of the core group, who is at risk.

This time around, the whole town might be affected. One of the quick scenes shows two young women walking as if they’re being mind-controlled. They don’t quite look like zombies but we know that George Romero is an influence this season and he is the king of zombies. By the fireworks in the background, it’s clear this occurs during the town’s Fourth of July celebration.

2. Does Steve get kidnapped?

Fan favorite Steve Harrington looks to play a major role this season. His friendship with Dustin looks to be going strong, despite the concern with newcomer Robin. Even though Steve will be preoccupied with his new job at Scoops Ahoy! in the mall, he will surely find himself caught up in the new drama. But once again, Steve won’t come out of it unscathed.

The trailer reveals Steve battered and bruised as a needle is being injected into his neck. His screaming obviously proves that he is there against his will. Where is Steve and why is he being targeted? It seems he eventually gets away because he’s shown in the group scene at the mall with the bruises on his face.

1. What is the new monster?

We are well aware that the Mind Flayer is still alive in the Upside Down but many wondered what other monsters Stranger Things would introduce this season. There was the Demogorgon then the Demodogs so what’s next?

Jonathon comes face to face with the new creature in the hallway of what looks to be the hospital. The terrifying creature is equipped with rows of teeth and countless sharp limbs. It almost looks like a mini Mind Flayer or some kind of Demogorgon hybrid. Could this be what is feasting on the rats during the “feeding time?” Time will tell.
