Arrow to end with shortened season 8

Arrow season 8 will be the final season of The CW series. The final season will only consist of 10 episodes.

Arrow is ending at The CW.

According to a report from The Hollywood Reporter, Arrow season 8 will be the final season of the series. We already knew the series was coming back for season 8, but that’s not all the bad news THR is reporting.

Apparently, Arrow season 8 has been reduced from a full-season order (22 episodes) to a 10-episode season.

Regardless of how you feel about Arrow ending, this is truly a changing of the guard at The CW. Arrow’s ratings have fallen lately, but still, this was the DC show that launched The Flash, Supergirl, and Legends of Tomorrow. It’s going to be a sad day when it leaves.

And, when it leaves is the real question. For those following along, Crisis on Infinite Earths is the DC Crossover event of 2019, and usually, those crossovers air the week before the holiday break. I have a feeling that might be the last time we see Team Arrow.

If the show returns in October like it usually does, there’s a good chance they could get all 10 episodes in before Crisis on Infinite Earths before the holidays. It’s crazy to think that could be the last time we see Stephen Amell suit up as Arrow, but that looks like it might be the case.

I don’t think the TV show ending is going to trigger some sort of transition period at The CW. The DC shows are still a huge part of their programming, and with the Batwoman series in the works, I see that basically replacing Arrow’s place in the DC programming.

This move does give The CW a little more flexibility with Katy Keane and possibly more Archie Comics shows coming in the near future.

The first six seasons of Arrow are now streaming on Netflix. The seventh season is currently airing on The CW, and that full season will likely be added to Netflix US sometime this spring. There’s a chance all The CW shows could leave Netflix if WarnerMedia, which controls Warner Bros. TV, starts pulling their shows off Netflix.
