1. Destroying the Infinity Stones

The Infinity Stones were the key to Thanos’ success, but it could equally be the key to his defeat as well.

At the end of Avengers: Infinity War, Thanos “snapped” and half the universe disappeared. The snap also resulted in the Infinity Gauntlet being damaged. I’m certain it was destroyed but I could be wrong. At the very least it is severely damaged, but the stones themselves still work.

This was apparent with the fact Thanos was able to use the Space Stone in order to teleport wherever he is now. If the stones had been destroyed, then he would not have been able to do so, and Thor would most likely have stuck his head on a spike.

The Infinity Stones have been connected to multiple theories of how the Avengers will beat Thanos in Avengers: Endgame. From using the Time Stone to reverse time, to using all the stones to “reverse snap,” etc. Point being, they are key to defeating Thanos.

But, what if defeating Thanos was as simple as destroying the Infinity Stones and reversing what had been done? This sort of idea is not uncommon. It’s used frequently with magical spells, especially curses, break the object that created it and everything will be undone.

We know that Scarlet Witch has the ability to destroy the stones. Maybe this is “the one” way to defeat Thanos? Gather all the Infinity Stones, destroy them, and bring everybody back.

And the reason why the events of Avengers: Infinity War had to play out in order for this scenario to work is that all the stones needed to be gathered together. Simply destroying one stone was not good enough, because as we seen with Thanos and the Time Stone, he could simply reverse the actions of Scarlet Witch.

The Time Stone would need to be destroyed first in order to succeed. That couldn’t happen in Avengers: Infinity War because Scarlet Witch was on Earth and the Time Stone was on Thanos’ home planet with Dr. Strange. So, in order to get the Infinity Stones together, they had to allow the snap to happen.

Small problem with the idea is Scarlet Witch is now dust, so they need someone else able to do the deed. Captain Marvel perhaps?
