In danger: Insatiable

Number of seasons: 1

What it’s about: Insatiable follows two people: Patty Bladell and Bob Armstrong. They need to find their way to their desires, which turns to be similar. Patty wants to win a beauty pageant to get revenge on all those who bullied her when she was fat, while Bob wants to be the one to help a young girl win a beauty pageant.

Simple, right? Well, they do end up working together but there’s far more over-the-top drama and comedy that happens along the way.

Why it’s in danger: I’ll start this by saying I’m a fan of this show as a comedy. As a satire, I went into it refusing to take it seriously and (as someone who was bullied for her weight) have no issue in the satirical message that is being pushed forward.

But there are a lot of people who do have an issue with it. Before the show was even released, there were complaints about it. It immediately received low reviews before it had even dropped on Netflix just because of the trailer! Yet, the controversy surrounding it helped encourage people to tune in. They wanted to see if it could be as bad as people initially thought.

Even afterwards, it received complaints but it also received praise. Since the views for it were high, it wasn’t surprising that Netflix renewed it. But will the same happen in 2019? We’ll likely see the second season this summer (or a little after) and the viewing figures may not be as high, which is why it could be canceled.

Chances of being renewed: This is purely going to depend on the ratings for the show. Netflix doesn’t care about being controversial. If it did, 13 Reasons Why would have already been pulled off the service. Insatiable isn’t going to be canceled just because people complain about it.

Those who don’t want it on the streaming service will need to vote with their feet. It’s going to be interesting to see how many actually tune in for the second season, especially to see if it’s just as over-the-top ridiculous as the first season.
