The Gifted Season Two Finale will see the rejuvenated Mutant Underground finally take on the Inner Circle and the Purifiers but will we also be treated to a character donning a fan-favorite suit?

It has been a doozy of a second season for Fox’s The Gifted Season Two, currently streaming on Hulu, with changing allegiances, betrayals, alliances, and a shocking death of a beloved character. Now, it is all coming to an end with the season finale of The Gifted.

The promo trailer for the finale is short on information, but it is enough to get viewers very excited for what is about to happen in the episode, especially as there is a strong hint that one of the main characters is about to don a fan-favorite X-Men moniker.

Ever since the unexpected death of Clarice Fong aka Blink (Jamie Chung) in episode fourteen, John Proudstar aka Thunderbird (Blair Redford) has been a mess. As one of the leaders of the Mutant Underground, John has suffered great losses—his closest friend, Pulse, and his partner, Dreamer—and now the loss of his second partner, Clarice, is weighing heavily on him. So much so, that the mutant formerly known as Thunderbird might take on a more battle-ready moniker.

In the promo trailer for “oMens”, John faces a squad of attacking Purifiers wearing a band of black paint across his eyes. X-Men fans will recognize this iconic look as one that belongs to the fan-favorite character Warpath.

In the X-Men comics, John Proudstar was the first Thunderbird, and his brother, James took on the same name after John’s death. James later took the name Warpath and has been a part of the X-Men universe ever since. It looks like The Gifted will be merging the two characters and giving fans a Warpath that fits with the show’s continuity. It is definitely a moment that fans will be waiting for.

Following the Strucker family’s reunion in episode fifteen of The Gifted, Reed (Stephen Moyer) is going to be taking more of a lead in the fight against the Inner Circle. According to the promo trailer, Reed will be facing Reeva Payge (Grace Byers) with his powers in full force. But, will he be a match for Reeva, who has shown how unstoppable she can be throughout this season?

Additionally, how are Reed’s powers going to hold up now that he has stopped taking the serum that helps control his abilities? His powers have been erratic, at best, but are generally extremely destructive, as they are tied into his volatile emotions. The unpredictability of Reed’s abilities could give him an advantage in a one-on-one battle against Reeva. However, one would hope that the Struckers take some backup with them in their fight against the Inner Circle.

We have no inkling as to where Esme Frost’s (Skyler Samuels) loyalties lie from the trailer. She has shown a great capacity for empathy and shares a bond with Lorna Dane (Emma Dumont) but is easily cowed by her more aggressive sisters, Phoebe and Sophie. Will Esme do the right thing and betray the Inner Circle for the good of everyone, mutant and human alike? We cannot wait to find out in the season finale.
