5. Riverdale

What better show than a current high school drama with plenty of action, death, and mayhem. There’s always a scandal around Riverdale, and you can stream the first two seasons in full on Netflix. In fact, it’s released weekly in Canada, as it’s a Netflix Original up here!

The American high school drama is based on the Archie comics. As you would expect, it tells the story of Archie, but his friends also play a major part.

Riverdale starts with one big question: who killed Jason Bloom. Throughout the first season, we’re taken through the twists and turns, being thrown red herrings and taken on a journey that will make us question everyone. Was it the teens or the parents? Why would anyone do such a thing? Is anyone safe in the town of Riverdale.

Along this journey, we got to know the characters more. Ships changed, favorites adapted, and theories were developed.

Rather than keep the one big question going like Gossip Girl (and even Pretty Little Liars, LOST and many others like it), Riverdale opted to answer it at the very end. But don’t worry, there’s another question to ask for the second season and then another for the third.

When you want a high school drama with plenty of twist, high society expectations and relationship drama, this is an alternative to Gossip Girl for you. Plus, Gossip Girl guest star Mädchen Amick is in Riverdale.
