The end is near for at least a couple of characters in Avengers: Endgame. Who is most likely to die?

Marvel fans dearly wish the Marvel Cinematic Universe could go on forever as is! With our beloved original Avengers– Iron Man, Captain, Hulk, Thor, Black Widow, and Hawkeye. The Avengers could team up with the Guardians of the Galaxy, Doctor Strange’s crew, and Spider-Man from time to time. Unfortunately, however, that’s only a reality in our dreams.

After building up for 10 years, the MCU as we know it will come to an end with Avengers: Endgame. Taking with it some of our favorite characters.

Avengers: Infinity War broke our hearts and kept us at the edge of our seats. We know most (Loki?) of the characters who died in the movie will return. When Endgame rolls around, though, if you die, you stay dead, and this has been making fans extremely anxious. We don’t want to see any of our heroes go!

Though nothing can prepare us for what’s coming, we’ve put together a prediction of the 5 characters most likely to die. One we don’t care so much about (maybe even two), but there are three on the list, two in particular, whose death will depress us forever.

Tony Stark

Surprisingly, Marvel has been teasing Tony Stark aka Iron Man’s (Robert Downey Jr.) death the most over Captain America. The first trailer for Endgame features a tearful dialogue from Stark as he records a goodbye message to Pepper Potts (Gwyneth Paltrow). And even though the quick scene we see Stark appear in the Super Bowl teaser is hopeful (working together with Nebula), we didn’t get very good signs of life from the Spider-Man: Far From Home trailer.

Robert Downey Jr. started the MCU, it’s Iron Man who captured all the attention and kickstarted the MCU. His death would be monumental. Protect Tony Stark at all costs!

Steve Rogers

Everyone loves Captain America (Chris Evans), with or without a beard. We know where his heart is and how selfless Captain has always been. Him making the ultimate sacrifice to save the world is a definite possibility. It’s not what we want to see, but it would be a noble way to end Steve Rogers’ story. Not to mention, perhaps Marvel is teasing Stark’s death the most to surprise us with a kick in the gut aka Captain’s death.

Drax the Destroyer

Killing Thanos has always been Drax’s (Dave Bautista) personal endgame. There’s nothing Drax wants more than to take down Thanos for the murder of his family. We hate to say it, but as much as we love Drax, we would much rather see him making the ultimate sacrifice than Captain America or Iron Man.

Nebula

Speaking of characters we love but would rather die over Stark and Rogers, there’s Nebula (Karen Gillan). We’ve been too busy not caring about Nebula enough to see all the signs. As we’ve seen time and time again, character redemption almost always means death is forthcoming. I’m actually surprised she made it out of Avengers: Infinity War alive. Nebula has turned over a new leaf from when we first meet her.

In Guardians of the Galaxy, Nebula wanted to kill her sister, Gamora (Zoe Saldana). It didn’t take long, though, for the sisters to patch things up. Gamora even gives up the location of an Infinity Stone to save Nebula.

Thanos

Here’s a character who needs to die immediately and we wouldn’t care at all, Thanos (Josh Brolin). I really don’t see any way for the Avengers to succeed without killing Thanos. Not that he deserves a second chance, he’s not Loki, but only his destruction will come (again) if Thanos survives. The Mad Titan is too stubborn and set in his ways to ever give up. He’ll always keep trying to destroy half of the universe.

The question is, who will defeat Thanos? It’ll be a team effort for sure, but we’re betting one or two characters, in particular, will sacrifice their lives to make sure Thanos is defeated.

Avengers: Endgame opens in theaters on April 26.
