Love is in the air on Grey’s Anatomy season 15, episode 12, “Girlfriend in a Coma.”

Grey’s Anatomy did something different this week–time jumps. The episode started off around Christmas time (which totally threw me off) and ended circa Valentine’s Day (now, that’s better). This week was very, very emotional for many reasons but the biggest was because of a woman in a coma and her fiance hopefully waiting next to her.

Everyone else was prepping for the holidays with Amelia and Owen hoping to start their own family traditions, and Meredith planning Christmas Day with the kids. Long before Valentine’s Day actually arrives, love is in the air at Grey-Sloan and that includes Teddy and Koracick (who would have thunk it?). Their chemistry and flirty banter back and forth were super cute, and I am totally here for it.

Speaking of flirting, tensions were running high between Meredith and her “love triangle” as Jo so excitedly put it. DeLuca is convinced that Meredith is into him and avoiding him but she’s rather set on proving him wrong. She reluctantly agrees to take DeLuca as her date to Alex and Jo’s New Year’s party. When it comes to love, Bailey and Ben were still trying to figure things out at the start of the episode–but rest assured, they get their crap together by the end.

As Grey’s Anatomy went through the various love stories of the episode, there was some very exciting news. The woman in the coma, Natasha, had woken up from her coma. Naturally, this was something to celebrate at the moment, but the time jumps begged to differ. As time continued to pass, Natasha’s condition began to go from amazing to severe.

Meanwhile, DeLuca gets stood up at the New Year’s party when Meredith doesn’t show up and decides to stay with Natasha as she tried to use the speaking valve. Naturally, DeLuca was crushed (and so was I).

Props to him for standing his ground when Meredith approaches him later, he’s not about that getting stood up life, girl! Side note: How cute were Teddy and Koracick at the New Year’s party?

After her intense surgery, Catherine spends most of this week’s episode trying to recover and go through therapy. The whole process is taxing for her but is also taking a rather emotional toll on Jackson (as well as Richard, but he’s handling it). At least Maggie is there by his side walking him through it considering she has some experience of her own in that department.

In other news, Teddy and Owen are having a girl! I’m not sure how this whole dynamic is going to work out but I have to say that so far they’re handling it pretty well–for now. As the episode continued to move forward, changes in Natasha’s condition began to increasingly appear. After healing from her previous surgeries, she would have to go through it all once more because fluid was filling up in her lungs.

During Natasha’s entire ordeal, Levi is the shining star, and there’s a huge reason for that–he’s in love. While operating on Natasha, Meredith and Jo both pointed out how great Levi has been doing and he took this opportunity to tell them he met a guy and that he’s gay. Seriously, Levi and Nico are mad cute, and I’m definitely here for this ship.

While visiting Betty in rehab, Owen and Amelia are thrown for a loop when she confesses that she’s been lying since the moment she met them. Her name isn’t Betty, her parents have no idea where she is, the person they thought was one of “Betty’s” parents is her friend, and her real parents have no idea about Leo. It’s a whole lot of information to take in at once, and the crappy part is that if they reach out to her real parents, they run the risk of losing Leo. Ugh, can Owen ever catch a break on Grey’s Anatomy?

Naturally, this led to friction between Amelia and Owen who had opposing ideas on how to deal with the situation. Amelia, being a past addict, knew they couldn’t push or force Betty into calling her parents, but Owen claimed that being an addict doesn’t mean you can lie and make “piss-poor decisions”. Ouch.

The “love triangle” situation continued to escalate as DeLuca grew more frustrated with Meredith. Just to spite him, Meredith ends up asking Link out for Valentine’s Day right in front of DeLuca. But I’m happy (and sort of sad) to report that Meredith ended up kissing DeLuca at the end of the night, while a sad Link was stood up once again. Not cool Meredith, but real talk, DeLuca is the real deal.

Thankfully, Bailey and Ben finally got on the same page about their marriage by the end of the episode. After trying to reach out to him, Ben refused to hear what Bailey had to say. When she showed up at home, later on, she found him working on the fence she had mentioned was broken. Asking Bailey to never ever call a time-out on their marriage, Ben agreed to come home. Hooray!

Now, we get to the gut-wrenching part of this Grey’s Anatomy episode. Despite attempts to keep Natasha relatively healthy, things just got worse. After speaking with her fiance, she decided that she wanted to be taken off the ventilator. Ugh, the heartbreak. Seeing the husband’s reaction but trying to stay strong anyway was something I can never get out of my mind.

As a gift to Natasha and her fiance, the doctors decided to give them some form of the wedding they always wanted–under the stars. Before taking the ventilator out, the doctors gathered around her bed and held up their phones with starry night sky displays. And just like that Natasha was married as she always dreamt, and then she took her final breaths. Sigh.
