14. “Chapter Thirty-Three” — Jane the Virgin

Season, Episode: Season 2, episode 11

What happened: When Jane’s professor starts popping up in her dreams, she needs to figure out her feelings for him. Then things start happening in her daytime life with embarrassing consequences.

Meanwhile, Rogelio is planning to propose on Valentine’s Day but the ring that Jane and Xo find isn’t the one he was going to use. Miguel swallows the actual ring and now they need to get it back before everything goes horribly wrong.

Why watch: We’ve all had a crush on the wrong person, right? When Jane ends up crushing on her teacher, we can certainly relate (and also understand why). This episode has the perfect balance of story and humor throughout.

On top of the crush, we’ve all had our embarrassing moments. We’ve gone in for the kiss when the other hasn’t or we’ve zigged instead of zagged and butted heads. Jane has every single embarrassing moment you could possibly imagine and we can’t help but cringe with her.

Then there’s Rogelio’s storyline. While it’s one of the most-used tropes in TV, Jane the Virgin manages to keep it fun. In fact, it uses the fact that it’s an overdone trope to its advantage, never once taking itself seriously.

This is just one of those episodes you need when you want the reminder your life isn’t that bad. Valentine’s Day is one of those times you need that reminder, especially if you’re going through a breakup, so head on over to the show on Netflix.
