It’s good news for fans of the Charmed reboot. The CW has renewed the supernatural series for a second season.

Despite the controversy and some fans of the original series instantly hating it, Charmed has been renewed for a second season. The CW announced the news at the TCAs, along with the renewal of nine other shows on its network, according to TVLine.

In my opinion, the renewal was a no-brainer. Despite the criticism, it has remained in the top half of CW shows in terms of live ratings. It’s also one of the most watched shows in delayed viewings. Even with the ratings up and down, the average has remained in line with fellow rookie show Legacies and its been performing better than sophomore shows Black Lightning and Dynasty (all of which were also renewed).

When the series got a full-season order, it also showed that there was hope for the future. Other freshman shows Legacies and All-American were only bumped up to 16 episodes each, suggesting that Charmed had the brighter future.

Charmed is the current-day retelling of the original series with a diverse cast and slightly new family structure. Instead of the Halliwell sisters, we have the Vera-Vaughn sisters. The pilot episode brought the three sisters together (Macy had to be raised separately) and they found out they were The Charmed Ones.

While I was a fan of the original, I decided to go into this series with fresh eyes and no judgment. The first few episodes weren’t stellar but they have got better and the last two episodes have been the strongest so far. A second season is certainly warranted.

The CW hasn’t announced whether the series will keep its Sunday night slot or whether it will remain as a fall show. However, Mark Pedowitz, Head of Entertainment for The CW, has said that the Sunday nights have been strong so it suggests he’s happy with the Supergirl/Charmed team-up.

Decisions on the scheduling will be made for the May Upfronts. Until then, we can just watch the rest of the season knowing that there will be a Charmed season 2.
