3. Stranger Things shoots in Georgia

When it came to choosing a location, the Duffer Brothers, who are originally from North Carolina, scouted several different locations before deciding to shoot Stranger Things in Atlanta, Georgia. Obviously, the show is set in Hawkins, Indiana … which is roughly about 11 hours away. In addition, they also thought about making the show set in Montauk, New York. Or another coastal area.

According to production designer, Chris Trujillo:

"“Atlanta was actually quite the perfect location to play Hawkins because of its similar topography as well as the treasure troves of set décor we discovered at estate sales. We’d freak people out. We’d find these amazing homes that look like time capsules from the late ’70s and early ’80s and go in and basically buy everything, including what was in the junk drawers.”"

Also, if you want to see side by side comparisons of some of the locations we saw in Stranger Things versus the actual locations in Georgia, Atlas of Wonders put together a really neat list.

Moreover, Atlanta is the filming location for a lot of films and TV shows. Not only is the setting and environment very pliable, but the Pinewood Studios lot sits in Georgia as well. And in case you didn’t know, big budget films like Avengers: Infinity War film there, too.

Which is how we got this awesome pic:
