10 Netflix shows that will probably be canceled in 2025

Netflix has some good shows coming in 2025 but these 10 may be in danger of being canceled.

As a new year begins, Netflix fans may be worried about what shows may not survive in 2025.

Netflix viewers have sadly had to get used to the streamer’s tendency to cancel shows too early. 2024 saw several good shows like Dead Boy Detectives and KAOS cut short and why it’s hard to get into the streamer. They can surprise folks with longer renewals, such as two seasons for Ginny & George, and are likely to continue low-budget fare like Outer Banks and hits like Virgin River.

Still, Netflix is a business that has to cut down costs so it’s likely some fare won’t survive 2025. They can be popular shows, others more ignored, yet these are the ten Netflix series most likely to feel the axe in 2025, so enjoy them while you can.

One Piece

Given Netflix’s infamous reputation for canceling good fantasy shows after one season, many were pleasantly surprised that One Piece got a second-season renewal. That’s a good thing, but fans may still worry that the adaptation of the anime hit could falter in the second year. There are also issues with its high budget and production, which has sunk more than a few promising fantasy shows for the streamer over the years.

To be blunt, One Piece getting a second season seemed a minor miracle, but there is sadly a strong chance it won’t repeat the feat of adding yet another to the long list of fine fantasy shows Netflix canceled too soon.

The Lincoln Lawyer

This crime drama ended Season 3 on a big cliffhanger, and Netflix hasn’t officially renewed it. Hopefully, they do, but it’s possible it may be the last year for the show. While it’s gotten great reviews and loyal viewers, the series hasn’t exactly been a huge hit. It’s more of a thinking person’s drama tackling different mysteries every year.

Hopefully, fans get at least one more year to wrap up that cliffhanger, yet there is a chance Netflix won’t do it. Even if they do, the chances the Lincoln Lawyer continues to ride for more years seem tricky.

The Sandman

Like One Piece, The Sandman is in danger mostly due to the budget. The adaptation of the DC Comics series requires a large FX budget, and the lack of stars helps keep it down a bit, yet still hard to handle. Season 2 is a bigger story, which only increases those concerns as Netflix may not see the numbers justify the cost.

To be fair, it could be an announcement of a cancellation with at least one more year to close the story out. Yet it seems likely the Sandman will tell his final tales in 2025 after the next run of episodes.

Sweet Magnolias

Sweet Magnolias has gained a loyal audience but nowhere near the levels of, say, Virgin River, despite good reviews for its third year. The fact that Season 3 aired almost two years ago makes it hard for the series to keep up fan interest and momentum. It may depend on how Season 4 goes and if it returns to the fun of the first year or slumps in quality.

It’s a shame it comes down to viewership as the show has retained a good small audience, yet it may be too small to keep going. So, as much as fans hope otherwise, there’s a good chance the Magnolias will wilt in 2025.

The Recruit

Season 2 of this spy thriller will arrive in January 2025, which is over a year since the first season. That’s a long development for the show, which wasn’t quite the smash hit of The Night Agent. A bigger issue is Netflix has plenty of spy thrillers starting with articles like The Diplomat around to get more attention. The Recruit just may be too under the radar for some viewers and failing to reach the heights of Netflix’s other spy thrillers, so the odds are sadly good that The Recruit’s next season is its last.

FUBAR

The long delay between seasons of this action comedy is already a big blow against it. It’s unlikely to even air in 2025, which means almost three years since season 1. That makes it harder for viewers to remember it or what happened. The bigger issue is the star Arnold Schwarzenegger.

Not only is he a guy still in demand for other projects, but his huge salary is likely larger than the entire Netflix show budget, and keeping it for another year could be too much. The second season is still likely to happen to wrap up the tale, but FUBAR may soon be DOA as far as a third-season renewal goes.

No Good Deed

This recent dark comedy thriller just hit Netflix but may already be a dead duck. The poor critical reception is a key factor as, despite a top-notch cast, the show failed to connect with the critics or most viewers. The ending left the door open for this to become an anthology with a new setting and cast. That might be an improvement, but the poor reception to Season 1 makes it more probable that Netflix just closed this horror house showdown as a failure.

Supacell

This British sci-fi series about Londers gaining superpowers won huge raves and a second season. Hopefully, that builds on the strong first year for some great action and excitement. However, one only has to look at Netflix’s record of short-lived sci-fi/fantasy series to be concerned about its future.

There’s hope it can keep up its momentum, yet the international cast may be too niche for some viewers and not enough to break out of its cult audience. While we can hope it rises up more, it may not prove super enough for a third season.

The Watcher

Remember this show? The Naomi Watts-led thriller premiered back in 2022 and did get a decent enough audience to earn a second-season renewal despite being originally planned as a limited series. Since then, there’s been no news. Even Watts has said she has no idea when or if the show will start production on a second season.

Critics didn’t exactly warmly receive the first year and the longer it stays without filming, the more likely it is Netflix doesn’t even go through with a second season as they may figure no one will be watching anyway.

Running Point

Stop us if you’ve heard this one before: Netflix gets a big A-list Hollywood star to lead a promising comedy series, gives it a promotional push, lets it air, and then cancels it afterward. It may be the fate for Running Point, the upcoming comedy with Kate Hudson as the new manager of an L.A. sports team.

Hudson is a fun actress, and Mindy Kaling produces it, yet Netflix’s history with successful comedies like this can be hit and miss. Maybe it’ll end up becoming a sleeper success, but it’s also probably another one-and-done comedy for Netflix despite its star power.
