Netflix has started hosting nearly as many baking competitions as the Food Network, especially near the holidays. One of its mainstays is Is It Cake?, where talented bakers create life-size creations, and judges determine whether they're real or edible.
In Is It Cake? Halloween, the bakers craft spooky designs like severed hands, creepy pumpkins, or scary dolls. The celebrity judges must decide if it’s made of cake or if it’s a fake before they slice into it. If the judges correctly choose the cake, that baker becomes at risk for elimination, but if the baker tricks the judges, they’re safe.
We have all the details on season 2’s themes, bakers, and celebrity judges, so we hope you’re ready to be delightfully scared when the new installment releases this week on Friday, Oct. 9.
How does Is it Cake? Halloween work?

It’s similar to the main series, except the judges often use a cleaver instead of a knife to test whether it’s a delicious cake or a Halloween trick. If that baker successfully “tricks” the judges, they’ll win that episode’s $5,000 prize. And they'll have a chance to win an extra $5,000 if they can choose a stack of actual cash among the cakes of money. That sounds yummy!
The finalists will compete for $50,000 in the finale, so some contestants could go home with more than that. This is a spooky, lucky, and lucrative bake-off.
The creepy themes the bakers must master

Is It Cake? Halloween season 2 will feature three 40-minute episodes. Mikey Day will return to host again. We can guess from the promotional teasers that season 2 episode 1 features a haunted house, as the trailer shows one of the bakers creating a bubbling cauldron with creepy bones and tentacles.
Episode 2 looks like it leans more into TV horror, as the trailer shows props and skulls, and you can’t have Halloween without throwing back to some of the classics. In the final episode, the bakers must create creepy Jack-o'-lanterns to try and fool the judges, along with other spooky illusions. Whoever makes it that far will win $50,000.
Where have you seen these bakers and judges before?

The bakers are all returning fan-favorites. Mike Elder and Tiphani Anderson competed on Is It Cake? season 1. Mike used his engineering background to create an insanely realistic bowling pin in one round, while Tiphani excelled in a nostalgic food challenge with her glossy burger and fries.
Corinna Maguire, Maguire, Frankie Velez, and Rodolfo Goncalves competed in Is it Cake?. Both Frankie and Rodolfo shone at creating textured shoes, while Corinna made a vintage sewing machine look realistic, including the fabric. Bonne Bedingfield just competed earlier this year in season 4, so her memory of the competition may be an advantage. She became famous for creating a vintage typewriter with perfectly set keys.
This will be a fierce competition, and we can’t wait to see the bakers tackle spooky designs.
Is It Cake? Halloween season 2 features a fun group of celebrity judges, especially incorporating some of the cast from Wednesday for the TV horror theme. WWE Superstar Bianca Belair, children’s YouTuber Blippi, and actor Lil Rel Howery will judge episode 1.
The three actors who played Tyler Calpin, Pugsley Addams, and Bianca Barclay, respectively, on Netflix’s Wednesday will reunite on episode 2. Hunter Doohan, Issac Ordonez, and Joy Sunday will be the perfect people to discern if creepy props are cake or decoys.
The finale boasts an all-star line-up, including Cedric Yarbrough (Reno 911!), Kristen Schaal (Gravity Falls), and Paul Scheer (Black Monday).
Is It Cake? Halloween season 2 drops on Friday, Oct. 9. All three episodes will be released at once at the usual 12:01 a.m. PT / 3:00 a.m. ET time. Be prepared to be thrilled and scared, and watch the sneak peek below for more of what to expect as we count down the days.
