Wednesday season 3 gets exciting filming update—but there's still a long wait ahead

It's no secret that we have become accustomed to waiting an extended period of time for new episodes of Wednesday. After the first season premiered in November 2022, we had to stay patient for season 2's eventual arrival in August and September 2025. Once again, we're going to have to buckle up for a decent wait for season 3, but we have a new update to share!

According to What's on Netflix, Wednesday season 3 is currently scheduled to begin filming on Feb. 16, 2026, once again with production taking place in Ireland. The outlet suggests that filming will take place for about nine months, which means production will last through the rest of the year and wrap in November 2026. That's a long period of time for eight episodes, but it's expected for Wednesday.

While it's exciting to have confirmation that filming on Wednesday season 3 will begin soon, we have an even better idea about what to expect for the wait ahead. As usual, it's going to be long, though not as long as the wait between seasons 1 and 2. If filming does in fact last until November 2026, there's no way that Netflix will schedule a release date before the end of the year.

Even if Netflix again opted to release Wednesday season 3 in two parts in like with the season 2 release schedule, the streamer wouldn't release the first part in 2026 before production has wrapped. By that point, post-production won't have even begun. Instead, we should resign ourselves to the fact that season 3 will not have a release date much before sometime in spring 2027 at the earliest.

We could also be waiting for season 3 to start rolling out sometime in summer 2027, which would be approaching or right at the two-year mark. Naturally, fans would hope that new episodes could be released as soon as possible, but due to the busy schedules of the cast, the nature of the production, and the extensive post-production for special effects, this show takes time to prep for release.

However, Wednesday season 3 will be more than worth the wait. The season 2 finale left the series on a cliffhanger with Wednesday intent to continue untangling the mystery of her Aunt Ophelia. In November 2025, Netflix confirmed that Penny Dreadful star Eva Green was cast in the role and would appear in season 3 in a series regular capacity. We're going to learn the fate of Ophelia!

The ominous ending of season 2, which included Ophelia being seen locked in a cell and the words "Wednesday must die" inscribed on the wall in blood, will make for another creepy, kooky, and completely unexpected season!
