Since the seventh season dropped earlier this year and gave us some major developments in the lives of Mel, Jack, and their community, Virgin River has been in something of a drought. But that's simply because the cast and crew have been hard at work filming the next season for the bulk of this year so far. Thankfully, there's finally some long-awaiting news to share with fans.
While it feels like we have gone a full year without Virgin River, only a few months have passed since season 7 dropped on Netflix in March 2026. Shortly after the show's return, season 8 began filming in April 2026, leaving fans on the edge of their seats waiting for updates from set. This time around, we received fewer updates, but we just got the best one we've been waiting for.
Virgin River season 8 wraps filming in August 2026
According to renowned television director Norman Buckley, who joins Virgin River season 8 in the director's chair for a pair of episodes, the forthcoming season has celebrated filming's end with a wrap party. Being so, production has reached its conclusion, aligning with the reported Aug. 10 wrap date and bringing us one step closer to watching the new episodes on our screens.
Buckley shared a carousel of photos from the Virgin River season 8 wrap party, posing with other member's of the hit Netflix show's crew. But don't expect to see any of the show's cast members in any of the photos. None of the stars of Virgin River, including Alexandra Breckenridge and Martin Henderson, appear in the five photos that the director shared on Instagram.
Even though the Virgin River season 8 wrap party has already happened, it's possible that there could be extra shooting days for certain cast members. Sometimes, that's the case given what's needed, like Mel and Jack's honeymoon scenes last season. Surely, we'll begin to see the main cast share their own posts with photos from set marking the occasion of filming having been completed.
Naturally, Virgin River season 8 wrapping production will lead to obvious questions from fans, including when the episodes will premiere on Netflix. Because filming ended in early August, some fans might assume that the season could drop before the end of 2026, but we shouldn't bet on Netflix releasing the new season much before sometime in the first few months of 2027. Post-production will now begin on the episodes, which includes editing, ADR, dubbing, and more movie magic.
Likewise, once one season wraps production, fans begin wondering what the future will hold for another. There have been rumblings about a ninth season being possible, but Netflix hasn't shared any official news on that front just yet. However, it's possible that the streamer could give fans both renewal news and a release window for season 8 before this year ends. Keep your fingers crossed!
Virgin River season 8 will pick up in the aftermath of the season 7 cliffhangers, which involved Mel and Jack becoming parents to their son amid his post-birth health issues. Their son was rushed into surgery after being brought into the world. Brady will also be facing life-or-death circumstances in season 8 after his motorcycle crash unfortunately left his fate up in the air.
