Less than two weeks after making its splashy debut on Netflix, Untamed scored a quick renewal for season 2, which even more impressive considering the streamer had originally designated the show as a limited series. The mystery thriller debuted to 24.6 million views and grew to 26.1 million views for its first full week, making a second season a no-brainer decision for Netflix.

From creators Mark L. Smith, who also created Netflix's hit limited series American Primeval, and his daughter Elle Smith, Untamed stars Eric Bana as Kyle Turner, a special agent for the National Parks Service. In season 1, Turner investigates the suspicious death of a woman in Yosemite National Park as it unexpectedly connects to the history of the park and the people who live there.

After watching how the first season ends, with the case solved and the storylines wrapped up, most viewers are probably wondering what's coming up next in Untamed season 2. Well, we actually have an answer to the question directly from the Smiths! The creators teased what to expect from the second season, including a new park and a new mystery for Kyle Turner.

What's next for Kyle Turner in Untamed season 2?

Following the season 2 renewal announcement, the creators spoke with Netflix's Tudum about the series' origins and their vision for Untamed season 2. Mark L. Smith admitted that he and Elle had initially thought the show would only be a standalone six episodes, but in getting to work on production and working with the cast, they wanted to keep the series going past season 1.

The creators revealed to Tudum that when we pick back up with Turner in Untamed season 2, he won't be at his first park since leaving Yosemite. He will have been to several parks before landing at the one that's the focus of season 2, as Mark explains, "He’s been to a lot of parks. He’s been busy, taking on a lot of cases. This will be the latest and it'll be more impactful for him."

Elle elaborates on that thought, sharing that thematically, the park is the main character of the show, and going forward into season 2, they're looking to place Turner in a park that has its own unique feel from Yosemite. "Each national park has such a different cultural identity, geographical identity. Being able to explore those places through the case and through Turner’s journey is what's so fascinating."

If you're concerned that Untamed will constantly involve murder cases with people falling off mountains, drug dealing rings, and complicated family histories, the Smiths promise that season 2's new mystery will be "organic to a different kind of park," especially since Turner will be miles away from his comfort zone in Yosemite. Speaking of, what about Naya (Lily Santiago)?

Naya could still be in Untamed season 2

The creators confirm that while there will be lots of new characters to get to know in season 2, including those directly working with Turner at the new park and those connected to the case, they are working diligently to factor in some of Turner's Yosemite coworkers. Santiago previously stated that she wants to return for the new season now that Naya's confident in being a ranger.

“We’re trying to figure that stuff out because my God, we loved our cast and we loved the characters that they brought to life. In an ideal world, we would be able to pull something off," Mark told Tudum about getting season 1 characters into season 2. Realistically, it wouldn't be very difficult for Naya to transfer to whichever park Turner has landed at for an unexpected reunion, or maybe Turner even requests to have her as his partner for this new case. It's definitely possible!

Hopefully, Santiago will be back alongside Bana in Untamed season 2, but there's a bit of waiting to do before the characters are back on our screens with a new season. While it sounds like the Smiths have season 2 mostly figured out, production still needs to happen. Netflix hasn't shared when filming will begin or when season 2 could be released. Stay tuned for more news and updates!
