When is The Witcher season 4 release date on Netflix?

With the first two seasons of The Witcher, each premiered at the very end of their respective release years. However, things changed for season 3. The third season arrived in the summer of 2023, catching fans by surprise and shifting the series’ usual release rhythm. For The Witcher season 4, things have somewhat gone back to normal.

The fourth season is scheduled to land on Netflix on Thursday, Oct. 30, 2025. So, it's a slightly earlier release than the typical year-end premieres of the first two seasons, and perfectly timed for fans to dive into Geralt, Ciri, and Yennefer’s latest adventures just in time for Halloween.

In addition, The Witcher season 4 is made up of eight episodes, just like previous seasons. But instead of them being split into batches like season 3, all eight episodes will be released at once on Oct. 30. It's unclear why Netflix chose to return to the all-at-once release format, but we're surely not complaining! This means viewers will get to binge the entire season in one sitting.

Why did Henry Cavill leave The Witcher?

Although the actor himself never came out to directly explain his decision to leave the fantasy series, The Witcher showrunner, Lauren Hissrich, previously told Entertainment Weekly in an interview that Cavill’s departure ultimately came down to his desire to pursue other opportunities.

She explained that he had other projects he was passionate about at the time, and they didn't want to hold him back or force him to continue something he wasn’t fully committed to. She even called it a "symbiotic decision," meaning it was a choice that worked out well for both sides.

"He had plans for other roles that he really wanted to commit himself to. And for us, you don't want to hold someone and force them to be doing something that they don't want to do. I think that's why it felt like a really symbiotic decision.”

How did The Witcher season 3 end?

The season 3 finale of The Witcher opens with Geralt, still recovering under the care of the dryads after his brutal fight with Vilgefortz. Despite his injuries, he’s eager to move on after he learns Ciri is on her way to Nilfgaard to be delivered to Emperor Emhyr.

At Aretuza, Yennefer struggles to support her devastated mentor Tissaia, who blames herself for not recognizing Vilgefortz’s betrayal and preventing the Thanedd Coup. Consumed by guilt, Tissaia takes her own life, leaving Yennefer to rally the remaining mages and unite them in a mission to stop Vilgefortz. Later, Yennefer heals Geralt with her magic and makes him promise they’ll meet again.

Determined and finally shedding his neutrality, Geralt sets out for Nilfgaard, sending a captured soldier ahead with a warning for Emhyr. Jaskier and Milva join Geralt on his travels. Meanwhile, Ciri finds herself stranded in the Korath Desert after connecting with the monolith at Tor Lara. Captured by bounty hunters seeking to deliver her to Emhyr, she crosses paths with Kayleigh, a member of a young outlaw group known as the Rats

When the Rats rescue them, Ciri is forced to make her first human kill. Traumatized and transformed, she introduces herself as Falka, taking the name of the vengeful princess who appeared to her in the desert. When it comes to the “Ciri” heading to Nilfgaard, it’s revealed that Vilgefortz has delivered a false Ciri to Emhyr. Though skeptical, Emhyr presents her to the court, raising her hand before the Nilfgaardian nobles to solidify the deception.
