Even though it feels like it's been forever since our last visit to Serenity, South Carolina with our favorite trio of besties on the small screen, Sweet Magnolias dropped its most recent season earlier this year. Still, that doesn't mean we weren't holding out hope that the highly anticipated season 5 could arrive before the end of the year. We're going to have stay patient a while longer!
While there have been two-year waits for new seasons of the hit romantic drama series in the past, we're not going to have wait that long for Sweet Magnolias season 5. Netflix has already confirmed that the new episodes will roll out in 2026, and with the latest updates about the forthcoming season, it seems that the release date could be coming sooner than we thought in the new year.
Sweet Magnolias season 5 began filming in June 2025, as the three leading stars — JoAnna Garcia Swisher, Heather Headley, and Brooke Elliott — were spotted filming scenes on location in New York City. The season later wrapped filming in late September 2025, which obviously counted the season out for a 2025 premiere. But the season could be coming very soon in 2026!
Sweet Magnolias season 5 episode titles reveal NYC adventure
According to a report from What's on Netflix, the official episode titles for Sweet Magnolias season 5 have been revealed, and the fact that we now know the episode titles means a release date should be imminent in early 2026 and we can start to crack the code on what to expect in the upcoming episodes. Check out the season 5 episode titles in alphetical order:
- "Aim Big"
- "Bigger and Brighter"
- "Come Home"
- "Common Language"
- "Everyday, Every Day"
- "The Magnolias Take Manhattan"
- "Never Stop Graduating"
- "Same Sky"
- "Smoke and Mirrors"
- "Swing for the Fences"
Obviously, the episode title "The Magnolias Take Manhattan" could very well be the season 5 opener and find the trio bringing a little Southern charm to the big city. As fans know, in the season 4 finale, Maddie received a new career opportunity in New York City. Rather than pretending that they're filming in NYC and doing so on a lot, the cast and crew headed to the Big Apple!
None of the other episode titles explicitly reference New York, but more than a few seem to suggest some long-distance struggles for Maddie and Cal, such as "Come Home" and "Same Sky." Should we take "Come Home" to mean that Maddie will ultimately leave her new job and return home to Serenity full time? We'll have to wait and see what she will decide in the new episodes.
Sweet Magnolias season 5 also seems to have a major theme about following your dreams and achieving your goals. "Aim Big," "Bigger and Brighter," "Never Stop Graduating," and "Swing for the Fences" are just a few of the titles that suggest the Magnolias and their friends and family in Serenity will be continuing on with their can-do spirit and reaching for the stars.
Even though we're expecting Maddie to face some of her biggest challenges yet in New York, Garcia Swisher teased to Us Weekly that Serenity's still where the drama's at: "I realized the real drama this season is right back in Serenity. That says a lot. There is some real drama — it’s not going to break anyone’s heart." Something tells us that hearts will still be broken, though.
